that so totally depends on what it is that you want. and how much non-gratifying shallowness you're willing to settle for.

Yes, this is something I totally agree with.

At one time in my life, I would have argued with this and said OH NO, its your actions, bla bla bla...how hard you work, if you have a good work ethic if you want things to go your way, or to "pay off", so to say.

No longer do I think this...it is all in Who You Know, and who likes you. period As much as it pains me to say this, or even think about it, really, (ha)...who you know matters a great deal.

I have personally known people that have benefited from this...knowing the right person (I helped get my son out of a bogus high speeding ticket years ago because I knew the judge in high school, just for one example). I'm not the only one, by any means.

The man with the  on his side might also know somebody too...but anyway...I agree, and try to always know the (or a) Right One. :)

In the trades, it's what you know and how you perform it. In politics, it's ALL in who you know.

really, it's kind of a combination of the two. if you have a good work ethic, that could lead people to like you after all.

if everyone knows you and they all know that you kind of suck at life, then they aren't that likely to help you out. on the other hand, if you work your ass off and nobody knows it, there's nobody there to reward you for it.

ideally, you want to do a great job, and make it well known that you do a great job.

Not to well known. The people that produce less and are always tootin their horns can be slightly bothersome

sometimes. and sometimes it's the best worker the boss knows. and sometimes it's someone else for some other stupid reason.

but it's never the lazyass that nobody's ever heard of.
