Never actually dunked over somebody, I don't quite get up enough for that, bet it feels awesome! People are always surprised that I can dunk though. I'm 6'1" and white, so I think it's just assumed that I can't. I like jumping in general because I'm pretty good at it. I jump things whenever I can just to see if I can do it. Fences and gates and the like. Should have done track and field in high school so I could do hurdles...
high/long jump. you don't jump over hurdles, you step over them. i was also a great jumper back in the day; i could dunk at 5'10" and as far as i know, i still hold the school record for the standing broad jump. unfortunately, my strength was in jumping from a standstill. the track events both required a running jump, which i was merely average at. incidentally, i was a great natural hurdler also but didn't try the event until it was too late. ran the high hurdles for the first time ever in the conference meet my senior year, and placed 5th. i can only imagine if i had actually been practicing all along.
i love basketball, but doubt i'll ever be able to dunk. i'm 5'11 and can only get my 2nd knuckle over rim on a good day. i hear there's workouts where you can add almost a foot to your vertical in a year. doubt i'll ever be that motivated to be able to dunk though. there's a shoe they banned from the nba that apparently adds a few inches to your vertical: http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/blog/ba...t-pair-of-shoes-due-to-unfair-?urn=nba-278191
if you can afford it, nothing beats the bear. i only did it for about a year, then i started to care about my knees. (no i couldn't afford the machine, it was in the school weight room)
I wish that more youth were encouraged to play sports. It is not only great as far as exercise but it also builds social skills. It is also a great release for stress and occupies their time on a productive activity. They only problem I see with sports and youth are parents. Those who wish to live vicariously through their children's games.
Because most of the people who primarily play sports are arrogant. They think that just because they can put a ball somewhere, more times and faster than an opposing team, they rule the world. I hate how women fall their shit as well, so head over heels for the winning player and odds are he's a complete dumbass. Granted sometimes you rarely get an educated athlete or an athlete with an actual opinion on things. I never dug sports. I don't get the point of it, just a bunch of overly physical dudes trying to get a ball somewhere. And they're so mean when you talk to em, not only that they treat each other like shit through humiliation and verbal battery. Constantly putting each other down so they feel like they have something to prove and do better at the next 'big' game. I want nothing to do with that, I left my friends because of shit like that. All that constant put down, I can't deal with it man.
My apoligies for not responding to your specs. Ahem I have a negative disposition towards them because I find nothing in common with sports in general. Because I find nothing in common with the sports themselves, I will naturally have nothing positive OR negative to say to an athlete. Its just not my thing
Better. It is almost sad that you could be so arrogant and disparaging at a group because you find them arrogant and disparaging.
Well stika, what would you like me to do about that? And why is it 'almost' sad? I would think a contradiction like that would almost certainly cross over into fully sad territory.
This is not every 'hippy' experience. I went to an uber-hippy school and people were still into sports, especially soccer, softball and rowing. Not all hippies hate sports... and not all atheletes are 'jocks' in the way that you probably mean it.
I don't really get this 'everyone should play sports' attitude though that some seem to have. We all have different skills and just because you like something doesn't mean everyone should love it too.
we all have different, transferable skills. but sports influence your tacit knowledge. tacit skills are more important than transferable ones, in my opinion. those with confidence and are able to work better as in a team, as a leader, an innovator - they are the people who succeed in life this is regardless of that quieter person who may be more intelligent in the very same field.
