I don't hate them... But when I think Star Wars they aren't what come to mind as a plus. True that they're cute though.
I loved them when I was 5... and they still aren't a problem for me because Star Wars isn't supposed to be realistic. They are charming and still classy enough not to resort to fart and poop jokes. ROTJ was my favorite SW movie for a very long time... and in some ways, it still is.
Because I was raised on Star Wars. Pa took me in 5 am just to see The Phantom Menace when it first came to our town
The universe would be much more different if 7 foot actors were more readily available than 3 foot people.
^You can finally kill ewoks in battlefront 2 now in a new game mode called Ewok hunt! Although its only a temporarily game mode... And once they get you (as a trooper) you will restart as an ewok yourself. Which I personally found to be at least as fun
ROTJ is like my favourite movie ever, never got why some crap on about the ewoks, they aint even in it for all that long
I don't get why Jar Jar ruins everything for certain SW fans either. Or how some people think Kylo Ren is the best thing in TFA, especially that cliché scene where he battles Rey! Ok i added a smiley but im dead serious
Jar Jar is just icing on the shitty cake. Anakin is the moldy cherry. And the rest...that ain't chocolate. Dad and Mom took me to ROTJ when I was three years old. I still remember Jaba painted on the window of the theater. It was awesome. But I don't know...Rogue One is pretty darned good.
Much of the rest is 'chocolate' so to speak. Imo at least. Jar Jar is a downer, for almost everybody. I for one don't find Anakin that bad either. I guess I didn't had such a set picture of him after the classic trilogy and the remarks in there about how great and promising of a Jedi Vader used to be. You pictured him as a superb noble/good jedi knight apparently and got awfully disappointed. When i saw this prequel trilogy and how this kid grew into a kind of spoiled and obnoxious but very talented teen who let his fear and anger get the better of him, i found that pretty easy to accept.
CGI wasnt really up to scratch in that movie, Jar Jar, Watto and Sebulba, they all just looked like cartoons, eyelines never matched which is way too distracting. Even the CGI Yoda in TLJ annoyed me a little, especially for that scene? They couldnt just use a puppet, or better yet a robot. Yoda still looks more real in Empire/ROTJ. Avengers infinity war was a bit of a dissapointment because Thanos just didnt look real, both ironman and spidermans suits just looked like a cartoon
Okay, word for word, what Obi Wan says about Anakin could be applied somewhat to the Anakin from the films. But it's the way Alec Guinness describes him. The emotion. It doesn't jive with their relationship in the films. He is clearly describing a man of noble creed, a best friend, a buddy. Like they had great times together, laughs. Just the two of them. Where is this relationship in the prequels? Okay, they ride in an elevator together. They ride in a car together and Anakin jumps out and Obi Wan's like, "Oh that toddler Anakin." Where is their equal footing? Their real comradery as friends? See, a guy like Anakin from the movies and a guy like Alec Guinness...these two guys? Friends? Seriously? Even Ewan and that guy wouldn't be hanging out. Or maybe Alec Guinness just had a very different vision of what Anakin was like as well. If only we could have heard from Alec. But the most glaringly obvious flaw is that everyone keeps telling Luke how much like his father he is. Luke and Anakin in the movies are like, complete and utter opposites. Anakin should have been much more like Luke, starry eyed and idealistic. Full of spunk and optimism. And then, when everyone loves him the most...he gets tricked or something and thinks Padme's dead and he snaps...and Obi Wan defeats him...and *cue Iron Man* he becomes *dong shush* Darth Vader! The horror!
There are so many ways they could have gone with Anakin that wouldn't have been as annoying as making him a whiner who is constantly complaining about his friends. Why not make him like a corrupt cop who is willing to break the rules in order to get the results he wants (they actually did this is the Clone Wars TV show, which despite being for children, is still smarter than the prequels)? FFS... he could have been a perfectly great guy who was accidentally left for dead after a brutal battle, and then rescued and turned into Vader by Palpatine-- people would have accepted that he became bad simply because of the deformity with no other reasons-- they bought it in The Dark Knight.
