My hair is decently long right now though. The front goes down just about to my chin, and in the back is a couple inches short of my shoulders at the longest point.
Yeah, and dreads are about half of what normal hair is, sometimes even shorter depending on how they turn out. I would maybe wait a bit longer, short dreads don't look too good, at all. Anyway you put them in, they are going to get shorter. Your hair is still very short, you'll basically have nubs soon if you get them now.
I just did one twist and rip dread to completion to see what it would look like (I did it pretty quickly, and intentionally not ridiculously tight so I could get it out - which is a total pain in the ass to do btw). Hopefully that helps - if you guys think it'll be ok at this length I'm gonna go for it tomorrow/today (Wednesday).
Personally i just want you to do it so i can see what it looks like But as Pat said, short dreads look of the homosexual persuasion Entirely up to you sir
cheesus crust son, why the fuck are you so concerned what the people on this forum think? do what you want. you don't need our approval to twist your hair up. personally i think you'll get tired of locks and cut cuz you seem like a whiney bitch that cant make up his mind. locks may not be right for you. just fuckin do it and then let us know how it goes, ok? update pics every month or so. no need to take new pics every 3 hours.
Natural philosophy, I'm just gonna say it straight up: shut the fuck up. To everyone else - I still am unsure of whether the length would be ok if i did them now. Thing is, if I wait to grow my hair out and then do them in a couple months, the only difference in the end result is that the dreads will be a couple months less mature, but exactly the same length either way.
sorry but kinda agree with np here but i wouldnt have used such harsh lingo. I realize your excited about dreads....cuz heck theyre exciting and fun. But do what you want...dont worry about approval so much. dreads take time and tons of patience. If you do backcomb...theyre gonna look like shit for awhile till they grow out and actually start dreading. If you go the pure neglect route then theyre gonna look like shit for awhile too. From what Ive seen, the twist n rip method gives the neatest results quicker....*see Lux's timeline*. However...Lux had long hair to begin with. I would reccomend going natural with your length and once your hair grows a bit...twist and rip if you want. Anywho....do whatever makes you happy. =]
Well, I decided, kind of. I'll probably twist and rip at some point in the near future, and when I do I'll put up some pictures. Other than that I'm just gonna post like once a month with updates, and other than that I'm prob done with this forum. It's way too annoying dealing with people like np when clearly all I'm doing is asking for advice from people who know more than I do about dreads.
it's too bad you feel that way because he accomplished his goal of driving you out. way to be strong!
I'm not going to voluntarily suffer with him when I don't have to. I think I know everything I need to now, and if anything comes up the forum is still here.
One last question before I start again: how would it look if I didn't section it before I started, and just grabbed sections of hair as I went?
That's how I did chaos's dreads. Just grabbed random chunks and made them. And everyone around here seems to dig them
only problem with that, that I know of... is that if you get a dread made of a section of hair thats well longer one side when the dread grows it will sometimes become flat... horribly flat at least this is what seems to be happening to mine
