I don't think education enriches people, other than self-education. I mean, there is a difference between intelligence and being educated. Some of the most educated people I have met possess the least ability to think critically for themselves. To me, education is more about repeating what someone else tells you to believe vs. actually thinking for yourself. I think education has become a joke, but they make it so you have to have one to actually get by in the world, and now a person's worth is judged by a mere piece of paper which says you have been thoroughly indoctrinated to serve a role in the system. I simply have not been fazed by most of the educated people I have met. To be quite honest, a lot of them scare me. The most intelligent, free-thinking people I have met are the eccentrics who live on the fringes of society and don't have a lot of money or prestige.
Gooood morning, oh, I'm sorry. Maybe we should meet for a coffee to ease your pain with this thread . Regards Gyro
I Suggest We All Meet In A Nice Little Wine Bar, And Discuss The Subject Of This Thread Over A Few Glasses Of Fine Wine.... Cheers Glen.
It's Been My Observation Over The Years That 99% Of All The Trouble In The World Is Caused By Beer Drinking Larger Louts.... On The Other Hand, Wine Drinkers Like Myself, Are 99% True Gentlemen.... Cheers Glen.
Ohhh Noez, This Is What I Feared May Happen One Day, Beautiful Wine Wasted On The "Great Unwashed" ...:bigcry: Cheers Glen.
the world has to have ditch diggers too. I heard an old man say once. i,m a ditch digger. and fine with it. i work hard for my money,it,s like doing 2 four hour sets of weight lifting. going so fast you don,t have time to piss for four hours. we go through a tri axle, or trator trailer loaded with logs, every hour. eight loads of logs a day if not more. sucks destroying the forests around here, but it,s being done anyway and i need a job. i,d like to open a little outdoor greenhouse/indoor growing needs shop. as a little dream job. selling flowers and bushes in the summer. and indoor growing suppys in the winter. i like to do landscape and plant. and grow things in the winter as well inside.
There is more than one type of intelligence, or capacity to understand and manipulate one's environment, as in I may be very capable in mathematics, but poor in language skills. Many times these differences are genetic. A seemingly highly intelligent person may be lacking in one or more areas of expertise making them seem to be deficient overall. A rocket scientist may have little understanding of human nature. So too, there are different types of education aimed at different expected results. The rocket scientist may have an extremely high quality of education in his field, but very little education in many other areas. This is not necessarily the fault of education in general. I think much greater harm is done to the individual and society by informal education than formal education. By that I mean the values, morals, and myths that our young are indoctrinated with before their minds have fully developed. One area where this is certainly evident to me is in the area of religious myths. Religion is the greatest threat to critical thinking that I have come across as it lacks any critical thinking skills at all, yet is the basis for almost all of society. Far better to go to a poor school than a good church.
To me, someone having a job like a ditch digger does not make them "dumb" automatically. I guess it all depends on what a person's definition of dumb is.
you don't owe anyone anything other then to avoid being annoying, but i find it useful to have some idea how things actually work. creating and exploring are really the two most gratifying things, and everything else gratifying has at their root one or the other or both. understanding how things work is of immeasurable benefit to both. also being able to express your dreams and thoughts, either accurately, or entertainingly or both, is also something i would find endlessly frustrating to be no better at then i was in the context of this world at the time i was born. the universe doesn't have to care, but it will let you enjoy yourself when you learn enough to figure out how.
People have the right to reject education, I guess, but I can't imagine not wanting to know anything.
There are pretty big differences between institutionalized education, self-education and rejecting education.
