Wise to have posted the statistics for Texas, (where it’s only just beginning) rather than New York or Massachusetts.

Here in Massachusetts we average about 1,500 deaths during an average flu season which runs from October to May. We currently have over 8,000 deaths from COVID-19 in just over 5 months.

Why are you assuming it just started in Texas? They hit 1000 deaths on 5th May, over 2 months ago


And are you assuming its finished in your state?

MA average 200 deaths a week the last 4 weeks for 6.7 million residents. If that kind of average is maintained it equates to 10,000 deaths over the next 52 weeks for your state, same average over the whole country would still mean just under 1/2 million deaths over the next 52 weeks

Just because 200 deaths in a week doesnt sound a huge number nowadays your brain thinks its over


Italy recorded 83 deaths in the last 7 days, 60 million residents. That average is still 73 deaths per year per million residents - 3800 a year for them, transpose to the US population 73 x 330 = 24,000


Have another look at Argentina again, who just recorded their highest number of deaths ever yesterday

Why is the death rate about 6 times worse in Argentina at the moment than Texas?

 

It will be interesting to learn once this all pans out. My guess is because they got so strict and cautious after Trump shut down travel from China that it's taken a long time for the virus to make inroads there, and now it's finally hitting the most vulnerable?

I doubt this is the last nasty bug we'll get hit with this decade, and maybe we'll know a thing or two more than we did this time. It wound be nice to know the real part from the hoax part, but nobody's addressing that. Seems like they prefer people to be ignorant and fearful. So they can rescue us and we gladly pay for the illusion of safety? I don't know!

What I do know is we have idiots attacking leaders for what they should have known before based on what we've learned since! And no useful info for going forward, other than "listen to the experts", all the while the experts are differing on their opinions.

We won't have to worry over covid cases and deaths anymore. trump has moved reporting from the CDC to HHS. All we will hear is roses and sunshine until all of us are dead.

 

That would be nice ... harmoniously living until the end.

But what difference to us at the citizen level does the reporting chain of command make?

 

Well, we know when trump is in charge we will hear nothing but lies. I can stand the truth. I want to know how close(er) it is getting to me.

 

Despite the dig at the beginning, I'm with you about wanting the media to start telling us all the numbers.
We all know that total deaths can't go down, that's kinda final. But... Why do confirmed cases continue to rise as if nobody who's had it ever gets better? How many are active? Why aren't the reporters telling us?

Whether the locals report their numbers directly to the CDC or through the HHS has no bearing on data available. It just puts the burden of collection and compilation on a different government subsection.

We just have to hang in there until they refine treatment/prevention enough to reduce our perceived risk. In the meantime, we might die of something else!

 

Can't trust the data that came out of both Italy and New York because they both got the overwhelmed at one stage and started listing suspected cases for corpses that never got tested. Can't trust the data from Belgium because they listed almost every death as Covid

The most reliable data as to age ranges, pre existing conditions etc has come from the UK in the last couple months

It has little to do with who each country's federal leader is

The decision more likely came from Pence than Trump, but either way, they know they don't have to cover anything up, they just have to report the truth. In a couple months I will be able to tell if the data is dodgy or not. My guess is you will finally get all their pre existing conditions, age, race and whether they were actually swabbed for Covid and when they were tested attached to every death
