Talladega Nights isn't a serious movie to get you pumped up for Daytona though.

There's a few cult things about Days of Thunder that make it so awesome..

That there's sooo much wrong with it, it's gold. For instance when the cars are racing around, They show clips from several race tracks in which I can identify even in their early 1990s configurations.

One second they're at Daytona, then Phoenix, then Bristol and then back to Daytona again then Richmond all in 15secs.

It is also the movie that spurred Jeff Gordons career because he came in a year after the movie and he kind of looked like Cole Trickle did (Tom Cruise).



In fact my highly prized #24 fascination would have originally be the #46 car but the movie developers somehow owned this number 46 and Jeff Gordon wasn't allowed to use it, so he went with #24.

Heres an actual photo that's very rare, of what his car was going to look like.. Personally I think 24 is a better number but maybe I'm just bias and so used to it.



This was actually raced by Buddy Baker after the licensing issue was sorted, Jeff had already started his career in the 24.



Until Jeff Gordon NASCAR was majority dominated by southerners and Jeff was never popular in NASCAR because he wasn't from the south. He was born in Indianapolis,after moved to California. He was not in the same league as Dale Earnhardt and the rest of the Southern boys, so when he started to win races and championships the fans hated on him even more. He only became respected and popular well after, maybe in the 2012 only.. Until then I had to hear him get boo every race, I watch beer cans throw at him when he beat Dale Sr win record...

When I saw his final win personally in Martinsville, I think 90% of the crowd wanted it that day. I've never been around so many people with the same happiness.. I actually cried.

 

And there's so many quotes in Days of Thunder that are actually legit solid advice for iRacing. One of my favorite is about tires.

"oh, and another thing Cole.. Tires.. Win race"

"what the hell you talken 'bout Harry?"

"if we can't figure out a way for you to save tires, we' re never gonna win a damn race. Now when you was out west racing open wheelers the cars weighed half as much.. And the tires were twice as wide.... Now the car weight twice as much.. And the tires are half as wide!

Now, I won't you to go out there and run 50 laps anyway you want to.. Then come in and run 50 laps the way I want you. Give me a good solid run and if you do, I'mma beat you"

Owner: so how'd he do?

Harry: *taps tire, smoking, melted* His way.
*taps tire, clean, fresh* my way... My was was 4 seconds faster



This is why I'm actually pretty good in long races, I know there's no point being fast in the first 10 laps, I want to be fast on lap 40, which is actually slower than lap 10, but, tires.... Win races..

 

And the start of Days of Thunder when Daytona goes from morning to race time and the event and crowd builds up... I've been there, done that in real life at the other race tracks, so this scene and music always gives me goosebumps.

The one song I always remember at the track was Talladega they played Carry on my wayward Son, it always gets stuck in my head now, I remember just sitting in the grandstands watching everyone come in oh and of course... Sweet home Alabama! Cause Talladega is in BAMA! BAM BAM BAMA!

Anyway I'd better get out of bed and in the shower, if I time this right the Trucks will be rolling out to race the time the movie ends. I have already found the upcoming stream I can already feel my wife rolling her eyes in the other room. I think her reaction to race season is literally "oh great, just fantastic. 9 months of this again"

Timed it to perfection lol. Movie ended, trucks rolling on to the track. no up to the final half the race vroom vroom.

today was a very exhausting day. i got everything out of the attic, my lungs are full of dust. now i have to go through the stuff too. there is a vast assortment of accumulated crap. more stuff tomorrow, but a later start.
