I really only started to improve my pool game after I played competitively on a league. Even now, I'm still a fairly mediocre player when I'm just out having drinks and playing for fun with my friends. I play best in a high pressure situation against people who are better than me

I just plucked it from a search I did for Halloween costumes. I like the orange against the black dress.

If you play and get used to the tables in the UK and you get average at potting balls, you'll go to America and play on their tables and be good at potting balls. ;) bigger balls bigger pockets and angled pockets over there, but a good idea anyway is to make pocket reducers. They just hug the pockets and reduce their size. Then when you get good at sinking balls with the pocket reduced, you go out to the pub and you'll be smashing them in easy, which is why I love playing on the American style tables because all those balls you say you nearly get or just miss will have fallen easy.

I've had two official master breaks in my career and 1 of them was on an American table. It just suits my game, which is to sink everything in one visit (barely happens, but I give it a try every time lol) since I find it much easier to pot on, I just went for the pot out from the break and never missed. :)

I need to learn in 8 ball, when to stop doing that though. I'm chronically subjected to running out to a massive lead and then being snookered by all my opponents trashy balls in the way. Though since I've been practice coming off 1 and 2 rails to hit a ball, my safety game has increased too.

And 5 years after I started playing, has been my best season yet. :)

And remember, as you learn new knowledge in pool your game will actually deteriorate as you start to put that knowledge into practice. It might take months to recover, but when you do recover and get it all together, you'll come back some much refined. :)

See I actually think 5 years ago I was a better Potter than I am today and everybody tells me my strength is potting I can and often do pot great shots. But when I started to have to learn cue ball control and placement, it ruined me for years. I couldn't just sink balls any more, I needed to learn spins and backspin and where I need the cue ball the next shot. What ball do I shoot for next? Can I get onto the next ball with this shot and most importantly, where do I need the cue ball to make the final pot to move the cueball where I need it to sink the 8.

See what I mean? Pool... Often even regardless of skill levels, it's all in your head hehe.

The dress I bought is similar but the collar on mine is less rounded and the sleeves aren’t short. It can easily be an interview dress or one I could use for funerals. I think going to an interview with a dress like that would be so unique. I wouldn’t wear my hair in braids though lol

Snooker has its technical aspects for sure, but the actual game is simple. Sink a red, then a color, red, color. Often in snooker you can get away with having poor cue ball leaves, because the table is so big that once the balls are in the open theres always one to go for whereas I find in 8 ball on a smaller table, all those balls get in the way they're so close together you need to strategically work out how to move the cue ball around to get onto the next shot. You do that in snooker too but you can recover in snooker.

And I dunno what he's talking about with saying you can hit other colors on pool. You're either on bigs or smalls. If you don't hit your ball you foul. ~shrug~

Also, 3 cushion billiards is on its own level of skill compared to snooker.

Also snooker.. Bigger balls and the tables ratio size makes it easier to calculate angles of rails and cushions compared to smaller tables.

So each and every cue sport has its own boundaries and skill sets and challenges. :)

To put something in perspective, watch world class snooker players play in the world 8 ball world championships. You won't see their names on any trophy's...

No way is a pool table 12 ft long and 6 ft wide. The Pool balls are larger than snooker balls, and the pockets are that much larger than on a snooker table. With pool, if you happen to hit a different coloured ball, there's no penulty. Do that in a snooker game and there are points awarded to the opponent, plus you lose table time.

In what universe are you allowed to hit your opponents coloured balls and not be fouled?

And that's not true at all about ball size. A traditional 7ft table used 2" balls, a snooker table uses 2.5" balls.

9 ball uses bigger balls than 8 ball.

6 ball, 7 ball, 8 ball, 9 ball and 10 ball all have different rules.

That's really interesting actually, because I read of some tribal cultures who do this.. All get up and have a singing time together, cup of tea.. "biphasal sleeping". Apparently more natural. Definitely suits me but these days I often go to bed too late. It's hard to remember that the things I stay up doing could be done at 3am

I've never played ball in hand rule but I really want to. We play two shots here. You get two shots where the balls lies, unless you're snookered and then there's other rules such as ball in hand but only from behind the ball and in instances you can nominate another person's balk, sink it and still have 2 shots left.

At the level I play giving away a foul is basically a death wish. Same as ball I'm hand if you can put the ball anywhere you want you have a massive advantage lol.

That's an important point you hit on there that applies to lots of things.. I think a lot of people who plateau and don't keep improving.. This is what they don't get.

@Irminsul I know frequent playing is the key but I don't like to play pool that often, so i just gave up on it all together. You have to pick and choose what you gonna be meaningful competetive at, otherwise you're (i at least) mediocre at everything. This is also why i don't emerge myself in a game like Fifa (but am into games like RDR2 online and Star wars Battlefront 2). Fifa appeals to me to play with friends but I either have to play regularly or its no fun at all. And i can't play 3 different competitive games regularly, then at least one becomes more like a chore!
