When I was doing leather work the machines were setup in the opposite direction of the one you posted... I don't think there are left handed. I think they just make sewing machines in either direction.

fucking typed a whole post and it erased it. i do not know why that happens, but it pisses me off!

anyway, first i would try to figure out the model number, or compare it to online pictures to figure out what era it is from, and any quirks it has. if it has a motor- good find. some were made that way i believe, but others were modified from treadle machines. if it is/has a treadle (some have been modified to do either) you will need to get a belt, singer still sells them, they have to be cut and held together with a metal staple/ link thing.
i love the following program, and all the others that they have made, i love living history :) i highly recommend
37 minutes in shows Ruth picking a pattern/ cutting out
42:30 in shows her learning how to sew the victorian way, on a treadle machine
51:37 in shows her working at it on her own

kudos to this woman for not being ashamed, and for showing, on TV, that it is becoming less ok to assume that everyone is a christian.

Since its not hopping in here ill just add to this post.
do any of you know where i can look to find out how close vertical supports have to be to make a tornado-shelter type space under a parking pad?

we are planning additional parking in the back, still deciding if it will have a garage or not, but i figure while we are at it we might as well make a storm shelter as well. im thinking that 6-8 feet of maximum span would be fine, considering how big parking garages can be, but i am having trouble asking google the right question.
