The way I understand it the soul is the mind/personality. It is either led by the Spirit or controlled the desires of the body.

That is wonderful however of course not true. Certainly when you answer a question your thoughts do not come out of the blue, they are stimulated into making associations regarding the question. To me an unconditioned free mind focuses on what it cares to and is not subject to mind wandering.

So in modern parlance could you say soul was ego?

But they dig nowadays HOW THE mind wanders at the job interview. How would that then represent itself as part of the free mind for life decisions (happiness or freedom).

Thank you aurthur itus. Believer and non believer smack of hierarchy. There are no marriages in heaven. I love my brother not for what he believes, but for what he is.

I am with you there, had I not been baptized with fire, I would have been right wing nut job instead of just a dope.

The mind doesn't really wander but is led by association. In a mind wandering situation we can trace every seeming disparate thought to a stimulus somewhere along the train. All of our thoughts have consequence, there are no idle thoughts.

They check you out if you regret studying useless philosophy. The idle thought came from Nature you were going to be taught creative over.

Nice thought, but practically, people frequently find it hard to live with one another. "Loving" our "brother" isn't always the option we have, depending upon our level of maturity. Eventually, after we get put through the process of transformation, we end up being able to love people with more abandon, since our sight is diminished, like Isaac's when he blessed Jacob by mistake, thinking it was his brother Esau.

When we are "young and clever", and feeling so "capable", we often make rash assessments of others, and are somewhat less tolerant than after we've been beaten up a bit, and have a bit more humility.

But even so, a believer, described as "light", or "children of the day", are not able, by nature, to associate with complete freedom with those who are in darkness, or "children of the night". Light and darkness cannot co-exist. Where light is, darkness must flee.

But this is just a natural outcome of two people who are from different sources being a bit "out of phase" with each other.

As much as I've intended to "befriend the world" in my travels, having grown up in the sixties, there are some I can only have limited contact with, or sufferings will ensue. Some are not sheep, but wolves, or worse.

It's a nice thought that "all men were created equal",,etc.,,and being an egalitarian is great, but it's not about hierachy, when it comes to believers and unbelievers. And it's not like in Islam, where they intend to "eradicate the infidels". You just have a certain inner caution about some people.

If one is going to be martyred, it's best not to be martyred for being stupid and naive.

I don't think I have a naive picture, there is no sense of depravity that I am not familiar with. It is not what goes into a man that defiles him but what comes out. People find it hard sometimes to live comfortably and that is caused by projection, not the actions of others. We are not afraid of those that can harm the body. As far as level of maturity, we have help in the form of the holy spirit which fills in for any lack of maturity if we ask it to.

If the light in you be darkness, then how great the darkness. The children of god, aware of their own inheritance and of that of their brethren see only that, because only that is true.

What children of the night are you referring to, can you name them?

Light does not cause darkness to flee. Darkness has no substance. Light dispels darkness.

This means only that you prefer comfort, not that you cannot associate.

In terms of our temporary states of being, the least concern is the same as the greatest devotion and the least irritation is the same as the greatest catastrophe, differing not in content but only in relative intensity. It is about haves and have nots , hierarchy. Inner caution, suspicion, is simply the least offensive in intensity, but is no less barbaric in it's content, than eradicating infidels. I just don't get the idea that one needs to defend his faith. Exercising faith, asserting truth is enough. We cannot bring truth to illusions and make illusions real, but we can bring illusion to truth and truth dispels the illusion.

There is never any cause for martyrdom.

Maybe. I think of ego as the false identity we have of ourself.

    I am what I do
    I am what I have
I am what people think of me

I was reading in the Bible yesterday and where Jesus says those that lose their life for my sake will save it. The word that is translated as life is the same word used for soul which I thought was interesting.

Me too. I think of ego as false identity that calls the body it's home. Not only does it misidentify the self but sees others as well, confined to bodies and therefore separate and apart from them.

We have a native prohibition against self destruction, and it takes a level of desperation to cause it to occur. The reason a man can do inhumane things to another is that he tells himself, that it is not me or mine that he is doing it to. We love our brother as ourselves because in reality we all exist in each other.

Appearances can change and therefore are not real. Reality does not change, that is what makes it real. The truth about energy, is that it does not expire. Your form is a temporary agglomerate, your essence is eternal.

Interesting what you say because psyche comes from this word you mentioned so it seems to be saying our personality or basically like what you said; That something that makes us, us. What makes you, you. What makes me, me. It's our very life itself. The breathe God gave us can taketh it away :)

5590 psyxḗ (from psyxō, "to breathe, blow" which is the root of the English words "psyche," "psychology") – soul (psyche); a person's distinct identity (unique personhood), i.e. individual personality.

I have read it to mean to sacrifice our desires that conflict with true worship and replacing it with the desires of Jehovah so that we may be united in the same line of thought (1 Co 1:10); Our hands and forehead must be aligned with Jehovah's (Deut 6:8 - Rev 13:16). Taking on the new personality (Eph 4 - Strong's 444) while dying to the old. Anyone who saves their personality or desires will lose their soul. Meaning no more me. Gonzo. Kaputzas.

I guess that also means an identity we have of ourselves that isn't necessarily the true one.

For it is better to give than to receive and now that we received it from God, spread it out so others may enjoy :D

exactly.i said all my thoughts are outa the blue.i did'nt say i had no choice which to focus on an which to leg go on the breeze.and a wandering mind dose'nt prevent anyone from choosing their own roads of choice.so it is true.

That's interesting. So in Genesis the soul would be a "living being" after God breathed into what he formed. When I think of the word psyche it reminds me of "mind" and how Paul talks about how the mind that is set on what the sinful nature desires is death, but the mind set on what the Spirit desires is life and peace.

I actually think of it as the other way around. It's Satan that steals, kills and destroys our personality. The sinful nature is not very unique. Our true personality and uniqueness is fully realized when we are led by the Spirit. If Christ set you free you will be free indeed.:D

Reality ( to bypass the problem of philosophy ) is change itself. As energy cannot expire, form is essential.

I think of it as nothing more than self-conception.

For all our purposes, the body is the life of the mind.

And home? Home is humanity! That we've had it all along doesn't mean we don't as yet have to find it! : D

Form is essential to what? Wave needn't collapse into particle. Form is optional. Intent or intensity is essential.

Yes, we are conceived. But more than self conception is self identification, which is kind of an impossible feat, as who is the self that identifies the self.
Methinks an impostor. The impostor considers the body it's home and as a result is a fearful thought, because the body is transient.

    Everything takes form.

Waveforms are very particular! : D

Form is essence, the hypostatic is not static. Intent is only preferable, whilst change itself is immutable.

    How more?

Though if the body is not transient beyond individual contention, but really only in motion, then we are all wicked impostors of our true selves, and bound to the bliss of transformation. : D

Then it is essential to diversity.

    Verbim

Hum, change is immutable. Isn't change change and immutability immutability?

Conception does not stop but self identification hardens. That is if you take away whatever lynchpin that the identification is linked to, a crisis of no real proportion occurs, self doubt.
