Thanks everyone for the help. The weird thing is I play in a funk/soul band, so my strumming isn't ridiculously hard, but I could hold off a bit. In the metal band I paly in the room starts smelling like burnt rubber in 5 min. or so because i wear down the picks into little nubs. I'm going to try thicker strings, and see if that'll help any. If it is playing too hard, it's going to be very hard to change my whole style.
