Is the first rule of the forum not to tell anyone about the forum?

Where can the army recruit? They advertise on TV and have recruitment centers all over the place. They have the internet. They have ways of recruiting without requiring public schools hand over student information if they want federal funding.

By law parent's have to give their kids some kind of schooling, and some people have no other choice but to send their kids to public schools. So if that is the case then they should at least have the choice to keep their children's information away from recruiters hands. It is a free country, after all.

I am not worried about my children specifically, I don't even have kids yet. I am concerned about everyone's children, about everyone's rights. Just because some faimilies aren't privilaged enough to have alternatives to public education doesn't mean that they deserve to have their children's privacy invaded by military recruiters.

And people should just accept it the way it is? Fuck that. Fuck the status quo.

But like I have said before (and what is obvious to most people that live in reality) is that many people don't have a choice about sending their kids to public school. Not everyone can afford private schools, and how can single mothers or low-income families have a parent homeschool? Public schools are the only option for many, and their children still deserve privacy.

eh..i would...but I'm keeping the two forums seperate for a reason.

 that you're on there, though. it's hard for me to get used to this forum because there isn't just one main forum where 95% of people hang out.

If Martin Luther King didn't "bitch and cry" about the way the majority was treating blacks would things have changed? If Susan B Anthony didn't "bitch and cry" about a woman's right to vote would things have changed?

Not everyone has a better alternative to public school. So they can only oppose acts like No Child Left Behind in order to protect their children's privacy. Only an apathetic, privileged kid such as yourself thinks it is bitching and crying because not all families are rich enough to afford private education but still feel like thier children deserve privacy.

I'm sorry, but I dont have your kind of mentality. I will "bitch and cry" to protect someone's rights any day. Just because something is the status quo doesn't mean it should never change. What kind of world would we live in if we all felt the way you did?

No body answered when I asked what rights are being violated.

    Speech??
    Religion??

What rights are violated when a recruiter gets a student's name and info?

Are they? maybe. Is it legal for them to do it? Of course. Truly want privacy? Don't rely on the government for every aspect of your life.

One's name and address are not included in the right to privacy.

I wonder why conservatives support socialist measures of an administration just because that administration is republican. No real conservative would be happy with the gov't taking so much liberty with personal information (of children, no less). You guys are just another sheep in the herd. If a democrat was trying to pass off this shit you'd jump all over it in a heartbeat.

uh, thats like saying a conservative wouldnt support the military since its a socialist measure. Heck, a freakinig government is a socialist measure in a sense!

I think recruiters should be allowed to sit in cafeterias and recruit; i wont go as far as saying that they should be able to get names/numbers from schools. Shouldnt the government have this information anyways though via social security #s and other?

The money for public schools comes from the public. The public should be allowed to express grievances if they don't like what is happening. They're paying for it.

When you give the post office a change of your address, they let that info out to advertisers, businesses, and other groups. That's one way you get on mailing lists. The shallow response would be, "It's a federal institution, they can do what they want. Don't use the post office. Use a private group for your mail."

Other people are making the effort to try to change the system and give the person the right to not have the post office spread that info all over the place. It's the people's money that's being used to run the post office in the first place, so they should be allowed to express grievances about it.

Having a totally private post office and school system will never happen. People have to be willing to grapple with issues within the reality of the situation. Even within private agencies, issues about spreading people's personal information still exist.
