A friend of mine gave the same recommendation... Is summercamp open and friendly like the phish culture was? I loved going to a fest without stressing little things.
Yah it is a really chill festival. I met a lot of cool people last year. It is a pretty big too. I think it just blew up and the people who put it on weren't expecting to to be that big. Its a good time. I know the Big Wu family reunion is a great fest too but I like moe. way better than the Big Wu. Other than that the line-ups last year looked pretty similar. Whoever plays at the family reunion on Friday goes to Summercamp on Sat
Good to hear... I see you're an art teacher in Northern Illinois...me too (kind of). I teach creative writing in Chicago. Maybe I'll see you at summercamp! Peace for now, and thanks for the help.
While I'm no 'roo fan, my friends get paid on time and (usually) have what they need to play, so good on that. For me summer in the south is wrong wrong wrong. too hot.too humid. Glad some of y'all can do it, but my blood's too thick! I'm looking at Dreamtime/Colorado burner event High Sierra Rockygrass I'd love to catch NW String Summit, but new job, little vacay time. as for Warren, I saw the "Gov't cheese" run with Allen Woody (RIP)while I saw what people were after with him, GM was the best parody of a power rock trio. and they had so much fun. Warren personally is an angel. So was Allen. Re as "jerry": NO ONE has ever tried to be Jerry in Dead or TOO Two dear friends of mine played in TOO, both as lead guitarists. They are diametrically different, and it worked out, sort of. Mark Karan is with Rat Dog (check out his blues rock band Jemimah Puddleduck-great fun) and Steve Kimock tours with his band (if you get the chance- GO. Steve is amazing.) I think we can all agree that a Jerry clone would be insulting.
I'm sure summercamp is great, and I think Harmony Park is very special (the oak trees alone entice me, so magical, much good energy there), and not too long a drive, which is a big consideration. Reunion and HarvestFest, both really good music and people. I am not well versed on summercamp so can't comment but have heard good things (although wasn't that where the tornado touched down last year?). Just whatever you can get to is my theory. I went to Bonnaroo last year and it was quite an experience, but not one I would recommend to everyone. I really like the smaller fests. Had a ticket to Wakarusa last year but didn't get there. Wish I had gone though, sounds like a really good place to be. Maybe I'll get there this year. I'll definitely be at Harmony Park at least once.
I would highly recomend Bonnaroo if you have never been to a huge camping festival. But the main thing is... GET THERE EARLY!!! My friends and I were driving from CT and were planning to spend the night at some motel or campground or some shit along the way, but at a gas station probibally 700 miles away we got some advise to go all the way that night. We were so lucky to do so. We got in line at about 3:00 AM the morning before they were supposed to open the gates (I think they said gates would open at noon) but they were letting people in and the line was alredy a few hours deep. We got a fuckin kick ass campsite just one street over from shakedown and less than 5 minutes from centeroo. That was the first major fest I had been to and I was one of the best experiances in my life. Also, bring more than plenty of water.
