He's primarily mocked for killing himself while that apparently wasn't what he was going for.
He's not mocked for trying to verify his own beliefs, but more so for the exact way he chose to do it. Which is objectively stupid. By stating this is objectively stupid it doesn't mean you aren't entitled to another opinion.

at least he didn't kill anybody else with his stunt..

  3. Okay. Initially when I wrote this I was in a bit of a bad mood and decided to take it out on people who I didn't agree with.
I'm over it. People have a right to express their opinions.

Flat earthers are not foolish, they are severely mentally ill, paranoid, and irrational. They need psychological help.

I should not have called him stupid, he was sick in the head.

Incidentally, you can get a hot air balloon high enough to see the curvature of the earth.

I think if I had to prove it to myself by sight instead of by using math, logic, probability, photographic evidence and other stuff, I'd go hot air balloon.

You can also watch a ship dissapear on the horizon with binoculars. The ship not only appears smaller(as everything does, the farther the distance), but it will also appear to be sinking below the horizon. I know you probably already know this, but I just like saying it, lol.

I was going to mention the hot air balloon height. But the flat earth goons here would say go on do it, prove it. The guy that has taken the world record sky dive from a balloon mentions in a doco the curvature of the earth from that height.

If he'd only aimed his rocket out beyond the edge he could just float until rescue came.

    ...I just couldn't help myself.

  10. I feel like he believed in something and was willing to die for it, and anything someone is willing to do that, they are heroes, even if their belief system is mind bogglingly dumb...........

Hero???? Lols. Hero's are those that sacrifice their lives in wars to save others or volunteer to fight fires risking their lives to save people, animals and property, those such people. Not some dumb loop killing himself and maybe risking others by trying to prove some blatantly ridiculous theory. Hero :flushed:

Yeah, nothing accomplished by trying proving a flat earth except proving that natural selection still works.

  15. It took courage for him to do what he believed in and I can respect that.

It's been suggested that he didn't actually believe the earth was flat, but rather promoting the idea helped him get publicity and support for his project

When discussing the flat earth theory with one of my friends (he was very drunk at the time), I asked 2 questions.
What country do I need to travel to, in order to get the best view over the edge.?
What stops all the sea water running over the edge,?
He just called me an idiot and fell asleep. :yum::yum::yum:

Sadly he is well and truly flat in the Earth.
    Admire his adventurous spirit.
His execution didn’t quite match it though technically.
