if someone asks you if you eat fish just say... "Fish arent floating veggies damn it!" they will leave it alone, or think your crazy
I also hate it when someone finds out I'm vegan and the first thing they say is "what do you eat?????"
I was thinking the same thing. this thread seems to produce more ignorance than it's trying to laugh at. and no I'm not calling anyone ignorant. I just don't see any kind of real personal or spiritual development being acquire in calling things other people say as "stupid". It may appear so to you, but your only as stupid as the rest of the world.
well, i don't see icedteaprincess's new thread... and remember this is supposed to be laughing and blowing off steam...
Heres a stupid thing a vegan said to me: "Why do you eat meat? Is it because you want to feel bigger, better, and smarter than other people, because you're not! You only eat meat because you feel insecure about yourself as a human being." Yea, and you don't think your smarter than others for NOT eating meat. What a hypocrite.
I see that. I just didn't approve of calling these things stupid. misguided yes. but stupid, no. people don't always understand what others may see as obvious, and may be in need of guidance in attaining such knowledge. but yes. I am being to serious for this post. just thought i'd put my 2 cents in.
My sister keeps saying that commercially produced plants have as much genetic altering, chemicals, and enviornmental complications (loss of firtle soil) that commercially produced animals do. But then I pointed out that plants don't usually carry illnusses that humans are susceptible to, and ALMOST EVERY meat product you see in a grocery store does. She had to admitte that point.
I love that when i DO get sick, people say stuff about my diet (which is healthy). Like, "oh, you're sick because you need more protein"
^^ hmmmm I get kidney problems from too much protein: this is dm who eats a smidge of tofu, does not drink milks of any kind, has dairy yogurt a couple, times a MONTH, is not big on mock meats and generally has a mediocre veg diet.
"Do you get enough protein as a vegan?" No... I'm a bodybuilder, but no, i don't get enough protein. silly kids I tell ya! ARE THOSE SHOES MADE OF LEATHER? oO What does rice milk taste like??
I've thought about this, Hard. All these philosophical dilemmas seem to find their place very quickly if you compare factory farming to a system that any animal rights proponent would find parallel; Slavery. If you're not a proponent of animal rights, then don't read on. NEVER overlook the fact that freedom of thought is NOT the same as Freedom of Action. Oh I wouldn't dare encroach upon your view of your diet, which consists of eating murdered animals. Isn't being completely accepting of another's choice to eat meat quite similar to saying, "slave master, I wouldn't dare encroach upon your decision to own slaves". It's just because culture accepts this modern institution of slavery that we even think of calling the (in this metaphor) abolitionists self-rightious. However I do agree that blatently saying to these people 'Oh, meat is murder, therefore you are a murderer!" Because our culture rarely proposes such a question. By that I mean they're kept deeply naive. IF they are informed of what horrific damage meat does to the environment, what it looks like inside of a slaughterhouse, Then yes, I do feel it's acceptable to consider them selfish people. ...People, which I do consider to be less moral than myself. (as I am vegan) (I made a movie on what meat does to the environment @ youtube.com/jerrysproehlich)
I'm really getting sick and tired of this comment: "I was a vegetarian for over x amount of years and I got really sick. Vegetarianism is completely unhealthy."
I am a vegitarian. My family is full of farmers, both grain and cattle. The first 5 years of me being a veggie was painful. They felt that I was judging them, looking down of a way of life that has run in our family for generations. I felt that they were looking down on me because I was "behaving like a freak". We have now reached a denutant. I still don't eat meat, they still farm... but we no longer discuss the matter. In their defense, the cattle they raise are treated well. They don't brand the animals, they don't milk them, they keep them well fed, clean and comfortable. What happens to them after they leave the farm I prefer not to think about, as there is nothing I can do to help them. I do believe that some people, or rather, some souls just haven't lived enough lifetimes to have learnt that eating other animals is icky, if not wrong. While its wrong to you, and to me, to them it is just a fact of life. Cows exist for them to eat, in their minds. You can question them, but they just get defensive, which in a family situation isn't condusive to healthy relationships. Grandparent's don't enjoy being told that they are wrong. Being in their face about it isn't going to make them change their minds... at least it didn't in my case. And I was all "meat is murder" around them for many years. Some people just aren't ready for that truth. Give them a couple more trips around the wheel... eventually they will get there.
ah i got a good one this old guy came into the restaurant and asked if i tried the chicken wrap, i said no. he asked why, and i told him i was a vegitarian. he says "oh so you only eat bird seed?" oooohhh i gave him such a look. "yea, i just eat bird seed!" i said sarcastically. he stopped laughing and walked away to eat his burger. some old people are so ignorant.
