I'm pretty sure they sell Ben and Jerry's in "normal" grocery stores.

Edit to add: I'm pretty sure they sell it at lower prices too.

I read back over this list and realized how removed from my budget that stuff is :

We live in Nevada and all of our fruit has to be shipped from California. So while I like getting peppers and melon at the farmer's market anything else bought there is from CA, not even grown by the farmer selling it!

We give our dogs canned salmon and tuna too. They love it!
Luckily we are both in a really good place and both have jobs that give us disposable income. I worked really hard to get through college and my husband has been in the military for 10 years. We both have alturistic careers and do a really good job at treating ourselves well when we are not working.
Also, just a note since I think you metioned prior that you have a child. Borax is very toxic. Be careful. Also, I agree...baking soda is an awesome cleaner! :)

They do. They are about the same price. Sometimes more, sometimes cheaper. Ah well. I guess I am spoiled with the convience of getting all of my grocery needs in one place :)

    Um.ok
Awesome for you - I wasn't meaning to question you income or anything..jeez.I am happy you are finachally secure right now..
We are doing pretty good, but I am frugal no lie.We have been broke before ... and I refuse to not have money for groceries with a child.. so i buy things cheap, we count our pennies.

I only use the borax (like bleach) for laundry and toleit.
Most everything else is just BS,lemon juice and vinagar.

When things aren't tight we DO sometimes save up and shop at whole foods and stock up- mostly frozen goodies treats more than anything (we actually really need a trip to get some xylitol which i use to make teeth cleaning treats)
.. but the idea that is is cheaper is ridiculous .

Cheapest, is making as much from scratch and buying in bulk as much as possible...and bulk ingredients - giant bags of wheat flour, fresh fruits,or rolled oats- are NOT cheaper at whole foods.

You CAN still do that VERY healthy.Maybe ever HEALTHIER.

If it is prepackaged in recycled material and came from whole foods with an "organic" label slapped on it -- is it REALLY any better than making it from scratch with whole fresh ingredients and no packaging??

For SURE its nicer, more convenient, and simpler- and healthier and better then supermar
ket packaged version.. even nice to support a good company ,when ya can,

but not cheaper for MOST purchases... by any stretch.

--- anyway, that was my point,
    it wasn't an attac
k at you ,or your disposable income, or even really your purchases ,kay?

Well, I have discussed it with the dogs, and we agree that Bella buys good stuff.
The Pizza she made from scratch tonight was awesome. I agree that Whole Foods is not the cheapest, but it is a place where she can find organic foods up to her standards. There is no proof that organic foods are healthier than non-organic, but there isnt any proof otherwise either. We choose to err on the side of Organic.
    I love my wifes cooking.

Hamburger helper is awesome though. So is velveeta. I am total white trash. Velveeta is so freaking good I eat it when I'm cubing it up to make mac n cheese.
I agree that food in open containers people can just reach into is nasty. I never buy anything that isn't in a wrapper. Except if you go to a farmer's market. Those are the best.
