Support the troops... why?

"Murder because of inaction" cannot apply to this current war because it was our government which gave arms to the Iraqi government.
Statements like "He gassed the Kurds" always leave out the *fact* that Saddam bought the gas from the American government.

There's always an alternative to fighting -- unless the country we are fighting attacked us first -- which it didn't.

While we're at it, let's just inslave all the non-Americans of this world.

So, by your logic, people cannot truly know what an evil dictator's motives are, until they've been an evil dictator themselves?

 

Soulrebel, I'm totally with you on this one. Since I'm not American, I don't know how you should support the American troops, as you're all being encouraged to do. Maybe you could explain to me what supporting your troops actually consists of in America?

Anyway, I think supporting troops, basically supporting warfare, is idiotic. The best way of supporting troops is sending them home right now, and give them free psychological help if they need it.

If the truth had been told, they would not be there in the first place.
Now that they are, and some of the truth has come out, bring them home, set them free, help them to overcome the horrors of what they have seen and done. Help them to live a normal, peaceful life again and to make peace within their souls.
Don't support lies and go flag-waving as a way not to have to look at the reality of what has happened.

 

Well there's that whole thing putting stickers on your cars and what not... but I think what's most important is just saying "I support our troops!"... fuck that, I don't support them. They make me ashamed to be an American.

I do not support the actions of the military. I suport the people in it. I suport all ppl that are trying to do the right thing, and to them it seems like the right thing to defend the country. I'm sure most of them feel taht this war is wrong.

And I suppose the money they raise by selling these stickers will be used to fund the war some more? I have to admit that I thought it was essentially financial support. Just like "buy American" and stuff. If it's not financial, what good will having a fucking sticker on your car do for the soldiers you're "supporting" with it? They can't even see it, let alone use ift for food or protection.

I don't support any war, nor the troops who fight them. Wars are never necessary, or shouldn't ever be necessary. Unfortunately there's plenty of people for whom material wealth and power is more important that innocent lives, so I don't think the worldwide changing your guns into plows will happen just yet...

If everyone would put up stickers with "I support the innocent victims of the war in Iraq", or "the only way to support the troops is to bring them home" or "Bush you motherfucking inbred dickhead, if you don't bring our soldiers back right now we'll start a communist revolution on your arse and proclaim satanism as the new national religion" I think you might stand a chance...

 

So you agree that having a military is benificial? Then why does one war make you not wish to support troops when you admit that you need them? Not supporting a mission is different from calling everyone in the military murderers.

Of course people will die, theres a large insurgency, and the military is there as a police force, and without any police force, the country would fall apart.

It's not like the militarys over there aiming at schools and hospitals, there over there fighting people who are trying to blow shit up. People will die either way, if Iraq attained a suitable gaurd and was left up to securing the country themselves, would they be murderers too? Would we be innocent because we let those people die, or is it the insurgents themselves who are guilty.

You have to make assumptions in foreign policy. And thats not even much of an assumption, Iraq can't defend itself today, it only has a 40,000 man army, and only about a third of them are properly trained and equiped.

If we left the task up to the Iraqi military tommorow, there would be many deaths on the part of the Iraqi military and the insurgents which could gain a foothold and lead to decades of more fighting.

I don't nessecarily disagree with you about getting out of Iraq, but I don't think we can do it all at once.

And the war was largely about oil, but it was also about gaining a foothold in the Middle East, and it has been working out fairly well so far, such as Lebannon and Egypt.

Of course, theres not fighting.

But if we had fought germany in 1937, millions of lives could have been spared.

The Nazi comparison isn't out of place today either, theres ethnic slaughter reminescient of the holocaust taking place in The Sudan an The Congo.

Interventionism kills, and so does non intervention, but if you stand by and watch these things while you can stop them, its cowardly.

Some parts of the world would sure as fuck be a lot better with American rule. I'm not saying we should invade all these places, but it would be nice if we'd try to persuade them towards democracy.

I really don't think Iraq was the right venue for an invasion, but we did overthrow a despot and instate a democracy.

No, but people in the west don't really understand the way people in the Third World live, and for you to dismiss any actions taken to help them out is ludicrous.

 

This is about all I can say, sure folks do not like the US for some of the things its done, but were the big dog in the world and if we were not as we are today we probaly would not be free or be the big dog.

Thier is no locked door on the usa, so to all who dont like the usa all I can say is dont let the door hit you in the ass.

We can all sit and agree or disagree on the who war and gov issue and so on but the bottom line is, we the usa are and will continue to be the world leader.

Others can either follow or fall behind and spooner all I can say is....whatever.... like you, most from canada do not like the usa, I wouldnt either if I had to kneel to my neighbor.

I have also noticed alot of the replys are from youngsters and that says alot about the inexperience of the youth today. Get out and live and learn about the world and life and worry about adult matters for when your an adult.

What would you do if your child was killed by americans? What would you do if one of your parents were arrested and imprisoned for drugs?

War is all heroic, and glamorous until it effects YOU... none of you have been effected by the american government or its mindless troops, or 'war' for that matter (unless you have a friend/relative who DIED for the gov't, im truly sorry).. tell some family in Afghanistan that lost their relatives that it was 'necessary'... tell them they were 'defending america'... its fuckin bullshit.

war is nothing but explosions, death, crying, murder, rape, terrorism for the ruling class. People who justify the troops, or the govt, or war, make me physically ill.

Actually, almost the entire world hates Americans, it has nothing to do with me being Canadian. Not that I hate every single American. Just your soldiers, 99% percent of your politicians, Republicans, your cops, most of your culture (minus some mostly unpopular music), and your consumer-based lives.

Becuase I have a friend over there. He joined up right after 911- because he believed YOUR ASS was threatened.

He doesn't believe in Iraq.

And what would you have him do? Refuse orders and go to prison?

I have a few things to say.....
a) not all troops have a choice, my brother went AWOL or attempted to when he found out he was going to Iraq... he was thrown in the BRIG on the ship and taken anyways! the military police caught up with him..

b)the Bush administration is f***ed... Bush is just trying to make sure that his name is remembered.. hell if his administration was half that good 9/11 wouldnt have even happend and we wouldnt be having this discussion now... I think everyone understands that

c) I support SOME of the troops just to get them home safe and sound, I've lost 15 friends already, my bf was shot almost a year ago and Im still not over it, my best friend Ryan was blown up in a perfume factory....thats just two of the closest ones, Im scared every day and I pray for this war to end but alot of the men over there dont want to be but have to because its that or be tried for war crimes.... I dont support how some of them are taking this situation and making it even worse.. but I know there are good people over there trying to do whats best... I have pictures of US soldiers playing games with the people over there they play soccer, frisbee, and the kids favorite is tag, they even eat together the marines share their rations... so some of this is doing good..... BUT I DO NOT SUPPORT THE WAR! just to make that clear I dont want this happening......

I think we're also getting signs that someone else wants the fighting to stop to, the tsunamis and earthquakes.. its all weird....I just hope it stops before its too late.....
