growing up, i got to participate in the lifeguard testing process. i got to be the active drowner who had to be rescued. i'd sit at the bottom of the deep end, wait for the person testing to come get me, then i'd punch and kick them, swim away...just generally made it very hard for them to bring me up to the surface. they would surface to get more air while i would go back to sitting on the bottom haha. very amusing for myself and my coach who was leading the lifeguard training...not so amusing for the people being tested.
my favorite place around here is actually an old quarry that got converted into a public swimming facility. i miss the pool back home though. it was this huge private park down in a valley; i would estimate that just the pool itself covered 1-2 acres.
Yes I used to be in a swimming club as a little kid.So we'd do races.endurance and stuff. Basically got hassled into it /dragged along by my mother. Time would've been infinitely spent better playing football/ or martial arts. But those were too "common" for her..fucking idiot..
I have a great uncle who drowned, so my mom started me in swimming lessons at 2 and then I took them until i was 9. Truth be told...I picked it up really slow and one swimming class season was the only kid to not get their certificate. I'm a great swimmer now though and lifeguarded for a year at a group home.
yes myself with the use of a floaty 5 or 6 nope i'd like to point out that before learning to swim i almost drown twice and then after learning to swim i almost drown at the beach...
..In Marine Corps boot camp you have to do some swimming with packs, rifles and do other various tasks in the water and you have to qualify..90% of the guys that failed and had to get recycled were black cause they could not swim..that number is not an exaggeration and that is every company that comes thru..I have had it explained a few different ways...I always thought it to be interesting.. I once treaded water for 6 hours
I had a close call with drowning when I was 7. My cousin and I were holding on to a float while in the ocean. She couldn't swim that well so we decided to sit on top of the float and play because the waves weren't that big. All of a sudden a huge wave hit and knocked the float over - my leg and bikini bottom got tangled with the ropes on the float. How my swimsuit got tangled I'll never understand. I was able to get my leg free and another big wave hit...my eyes burned and my lungs felt like they were going to explode. I ended up taking my bikini bottoms off - another wave hit. My dad had been running from the beach to the water. He saw my cousin pop up and hold on to the raft then another wave and he saw my swim suit. He was screaming my name and I just asked, "can you get my bottoms for me?" While I coughed and rubbed my eyes. haha I wasn't allowed in the ocean with a float without him until I was much older.
i had to teach a couple asians to pass there army swim qualifications. but yea, i've heard the blacks don't do too well for swim quals ahaha
the only time i almost drowned was at a friends pool. we were playing king/queen of the float - was a triangle shape and you could sit inside - some fucking kid decides to jump off the diving board on top of the float. i saw just in time to push my sister into the water, but the kid landed on top of my head. my neck snapped back, i sank to the bottom, finally came to my senses and was able to swim back up to the top. i was wicked pissed
~Yes, I can swim. ~No one taught me, I taught myself. ~I was 5 and my sister would take me to the public pool and leave me bored and alone in the shallow end. So I practiced it until I got it... ~I've never had a lesson.
This is Bulgaria we're talking about. There aren't any real cities there....The whole Bulgaria is one big village
that and i could balance a beach ball on my nose while swimming in the deep end. lol. ....not to mention the records i broke.
Between swimming lesson at a local area lake, family outings along the north shore, and summer camp on Lake Winnipesaukee, I learned to swim very early on in both fresh and saltwater hotwater
