System's first two albums were definitely metal, but their newer stuff is just rock. I like pretty much all of it. I prefer the old ones though.
i like most songs by them, byob not so much. i really like lonely day but the bad grammer drives me nuts as for the image capitalistic topic. would you rather have them work part time at walmart play their music on shitty equipment and sell their albums conert tickets for free? i dont, besides their message is an inspiration. it inspires my lyrics quite a bit. idk if they are metal or not but i wont know if my band is metal or not either. sooo yea all i know is that they are talented.
I think you're missing the point. They're bitching and crying about something they are supporting to the fullest. Record companies know that their "anti establishment" views sell shit, or the aural equivalent to shit, and therefore plaster all advertising fronts with soad. (TV, radio, magazines, ect...) If soad did everything without using million dollar corp's funding, it would atleast be respectable, regardless of how annoying they sound to me.
I saw them for the first/only time at Ozfest last summer in Columbus, OH, and they were great. Hearing the crowd singing along on so many kickass great songs, man, it reminded me of the 1970s all over again I recorded a short snippet of it on my cell phone, and love it so much I still can't bring myself to erase it. It sounds like crap, you can barely make out the song, and they're practically drowned out by singing (during Toxicity, no less!). The spirit of the moment is captured well, though, exactly as I remember it that night.
System Of A Down is good shit... I haven't really been into Hypnotized/Mezmerized but all their albums before hand are great... especially their self-titled album which is by far my favorite out of all of them
if they have a decent message then ill at least read the lyrics as literature to expand my knowledge, you have to admit they use wordplay nicely
If you're using SOAD to expand your knowledge, I'd seek a greater medium. If you like the lyrics / message, does that not in a sense mean that you like the band? SOAD don't speak of anything that hasn't been plastered by the news for years. I am always amused by the hypocrisy and irony involved whenever system of a down is brought up.
i meant any band with a decent message, maybe knowledge wasnt the right word, hmmmmm theres a word im thinking of....... oh thought process and pattern.
Ugh. I hope after you read what you typed, you won't need me to explain how contradicting your whole message is. But, just incase you really don't have any grasp here at all... The band wrote the lyrics. Ditto. Still don't get the idea? The band wrote the lyrics, and by liking a production of the "band", you therefore do, in a sense appreciate SOAD. Its not a big deal, but I just find it amusing that you don't seem to realize this.
no, i dont. if i dont like the way their music sounds, or their vocalist sings, or how the guitar sounds, ill at least look at a bands lyrics. sorry if YOU dont get how uncontradicting my statement was. maybe you should open up your mind there bud. ill give you an example, i hate megadeth, i think their music sucks. BUT i like some of their lyrics (which i read as poetry or literature) ill give you an example of two songs that i like the lyrics to, "peace sells" and "scorpion" so now do you understand? im not trying to prove that SOAD is the greatest band in existence, cuz their not. im just saying that almost every piece of lyrics can be appreciated by an intellectual person.
I like SOAD, they have a certain "je ne sais pas" in some of their songs, like an anger (listen to "sugar" and "Cigaro" for example) wich I like about them. The live version I once saw of Cigaro was awesome, though they were out of rythm for 2 seconds
