Alright, so you really are retarded. lol. By liking the lyrics written by SOAD, you do in turn like SOAD. The lyrics are just as much a part of SOAD as the guitar work or drums. "I DONT LIKE SOAD, I LIKE THEIR LYRICS" sounds just as lame as "I DONT LIKE SOAD, BUT THE BASS IS AWESOME!". Direct contradictions. "I don't like Nike, but their shoes feel nice" is pretty much saying the same thing.
well i guess i cant say it the way i mean, proly cuz i DO like SOAD. i guess you dont have to like their lyrics if you dont want, or anything about them, go ahead and listen to someone else then..... btw im not retarded jsuk
I dont see what's wrong with "I dont like this band but they have an awesome bassisst" ? I could very well recognize that a band has a good bassist/ guitarist/ lyrics and still not be into them. with that said I must say I really like soad ( last 2 albums included), they are with no doubt the band that got me into metal.
I don't see what's wrong with reading comprehension. I said "bass" not "bassist" The basslines are products of the venture that is "band", if you like a bassline, you like a product of the band. How is this not in a sense liking the band? Although, by recognizing that a band has something good, one might have to assume that you like it, as labelling it "good" would be subjective, and not necessarily factual.
I just dont get what's so strange about liking the lyrics of a song without liking the actual sound of a song. for example. I am not into the doors at all, but after I heared how everyone was talking about jim morrison as if he was some poet god or something I decided I had to check the lyrics (english not being my mother tongue I dont understand the words of a song unless I read em up) and I have to admit that this guy was real genius. I still am not into their songs but I do recognize they have some really good lyrics.
The lyrics are created by the band, they are a production of the venture that is the band, so by liking one aspect of them how is one not liking the band to an extent? I don't like Nike, but I love their shoes.
If it was impossible to like the lyrics of a band you dislike, it would logically speaking be equally impossible to dislike the lyrics of a band you like. But I'm a leftist listening to plenty far right-wing bands, so Metallideth's theory doesn't add up, if you ask me. It may all be a case of how someone as a person experiences music and lyrics. I for one think it's easy to separate the two, while you prefer to keep them very closely associated. I don't think either way is the right or the wrong way.
I don't see how I could break this down any more clear for you. So you like the lyrics that a band wrote, the property and presentation of a band, but still you don't have any like for the band? To whom does the appreciation for the lyrics go? You can quite easily not like the lyrics of a band, it's not uncommon for people to like the riffs / drums but not what they're saying. Is it really that difficult of a concept? Lets change it a bit. "Man, I hate Cannibal Corpse, but their basslines and drum beats are amazing. I could listen to it all day. " Does that make sense to you? At all?
Drums and basslines are too much incorporated into the music as a whole to ignore, whereas lyrics I don't like really don't hold me back. I listen to music for the music, and never ever ONLY for the lyrics. So no, 'omg they have gr8 lyrix!!!11 I luuurve em1!! <3' doesn't pertain to me. It's the music as a whole which attracts me, and the lyrics are very much a secondary aspect. Someone can be a good writer of lyrics and a mediocre musician/composer of songs. In that case, I really don't care to ever listen to their music at all, because that's not what it's about for me. But that doesn't mean I don't still have respect for that person's textual prowess. I can dislike some features of a band and like other features of that same band, oh my god, I must be a retard !!
Its like you understand, but don't even realize it. Some people can listen to music and never even pay attention to the bass, while the lyrics captivate them. So you don't feel lyrics are part of the song? An interesting concept, I personally look at everything as a whole, and from time to time break it down to instruments, but to say that lyrics aren't musical is nonsense. Its funny, because you have stated "I can dislike some features of a band and like other features of that same band, oh my god, I must be a retard !! " but don't seem to realize that by liking the lyrics of a band is in turn liking something about the band, and therefore not completely disliking them. I don't see how this isn't "clicking" for you, it's becoming so repetitive to type. You can't fully hate a band if you like the lyrics, it doesn't make sense, you can hate everything else but if you like the lyrical production of a band, in a sense you partially like the band, it doesn't mean you have to like everything about them, or listen to their music, but if you appresh the bands lyrics, how is that not liking them to an extent?
I don't feel it's not part of the song, it's the one part I can most easily ignore if they're not to my liking. If I do like them, that only makes the band cooler, if I don't, not a prob! If I don't like the band but the lyric writer is pretty good, well, good for him but it's not going to change my opinion on the band. I have never said that lyrics aren't musical. All I said was that lyrics are no reason for me to dislike a band, as I focus entirely on the atmosphere, melody and rhythm of the music. Over half of what I listen to I can't decipher anyway. Yes, but that's just it, I DON'T hate these bands. I don't hate HIM, I don't hate Limp Bizkit, I don't hate Angry Aryans and I don't hate Duran Duran. I used to be more fundamentalist and elitist in that, yes, but nowadays I don't really mind the music I used to hate, as long as I don't have to listen to it. Yes, I dislike certain music, as in being majorly annoyed by it and thus preferring not to be subjected to it, but because I rarely have to listen to it, these bands usually don't bother me and I don't see the point in wasting my precious hatred on it. Bottom line; I can read up some lyrics by *any of the above-mentioned bands* and perhaps like them (small chance, but this is of course entirely hypothetic), but that doesn't decrease the disgust I feel when I have to hear them play. Ergo, liking some band's lyrics doesn't mean I like the band any better, as you suggested. Simple as that.
Alright, well this has been going in circles. Lyrics are a part of the band, by liking the work of the band, theres really very little other way to actually like a band, whether it be the verbal or instrumental message. I dont see what denying the idea that you like "name of band" when you like what they have wrote for lyrics. I like their lyrics but nothing else. In turn, I do like the band to an extent. You might not like the people, or the way they sound, but their work is still of their venture. It comes down to my aforementioned statements. I hate nike, but man, I love those shoes.
Well, it's not like we're ever going to change each other's minds so let's quit this unproductive discussion and put both our time to better use, okay?
I loved their first CD, everything after, not so much. I saw em in concert a few times....... First time was awesome, second time I saw em they were in such a hurry to get off stage each song lasted like 30 seconds..................
Where did you read me say " I could listen to it all day"? That's the point I was trying to get across. It would rather be like " Man Cannibal corpse have really amazing basslines, their vocals style keeps me from getting into them though." seems perfectly normal.
