quickly turning into "Well satan can show himself so why can't GOd?" And then satanism gets a few more groupies
Well, the world suffer's frequently from "acts of God." Since satan isn't whiping out entire towns with hurricanes or tsunami's maybe he would get a few more followers...
Erise, you initial post clearly indicates that God actually revealed himself to that woman, interviening to diswade your friend from fully invoking the devil.......i see no reason why your friend would deny us the same experience.
Its so funny to sit back and watch you all with this dualism. Did you know, biblical writtings aside, that Set-an and the Hebrew god Yahweh have nothing to do with each other? Set-an was in the Hebrew pantheon before Yahweh ever was, and even the, Set-an wasnt the opposer of their god. He was an egyptian deity that the Jews took with them (in their pantheon) when their big exodus went down. The "Opposer" that started the war in heaven wasnt Set-an, or Lucifer, they were both of different cultural pantheons at the time. But, people like to look at things in linear, rather than through cultural merging and adoption. Go ahead with this Satan proves God kinda discussions, but it is horribly inaccurate. SO lets say Set-an exists, which i think he does, that wouldnt prove the existence of the Hebrew god with a good publicist. It might prove the Egyptian gods exist though.
I wasnt talkin about you specificlly Erise, i was speaking of a few on the thread. Thanks for the story though.
lol, i like ya Heron........but dude.....you so like to think you know "the truth" but yer ain't gonna find it from a book of myth and folklore.....if you think the age of a mythology is relevent to the validity....then yer can go waaaaay further back than that ...... You've made your choices as to which mythology and religion you subscribe to....but please don't pretend you have a definitive answer that covers others beliefs....a common root does not mean that all aspects of the Gods, in all their many names and cultures, can't exist seperately......think for a while why a God would exist in the first place, am sure yer'll come to a conclusion
is this thread really titled 'teatime with satan'? i am slowly go-ing crazy, one two three four five six, switch
Oz, i was just giving a little backgroud in Hebrew polytheism, which led to the Monotheism of today, and the many different names in the past all took on few roles, and narrowed it down to the dualistic story today. I never proclaimed any of it to be true, but if you are going to go by a big book of mythology called the bible, you should know the mythology that is is made of. I personally subsribe to no mythology, not even the mythology of my gods. I know better. Some of it is a true aspect, but lots of it is embellishment. Im not preaching that mythology is truth, but when talking mythology, then more mythology is a relivant argument.
You've misunderstood me Heron.....my point is that although the abrianic God didn't start as stated in the bible (being a lil' god of agriculture among a subculture of the Nile Delta) ...... doesn't prevent Him from becoming the God that is currently worshipped through modern Judaism or Christianity.....Gods evolve and divide.....Satan, as we commonly know him, shares nothing with his namesake from ancient history....mythology is just the recording of the worship of different aspects, and occasionally, different entities that, as far as we can know from records and oral traditions, share a common root..... I think it's your good self that is thinking far to linear on this occasion
I think I have come across wrong to you as well. I know what you are saying, and pretty much agree. I dont believe that the modern Jews are worshipping the god of Abraham, and that comes from my non-linear thinking in my studies. I think Jesus was trying to get them to return to their tribal god, and they didnt listen. But it really doesnt matter to me, because my people arent worshipping their tribal father either, and that I my only concern. Gods, tribal ones, come from ancestrial reverence, and lineage, and others come from nature spirits, ie a mountains spirit or a rivers spirit. That includes the god Abraham, and the other gods they worshiped. But a new god jumped in on it, and things changed. but that is just in mythology, who knows what really happened.
