And He knew them as well as anyone by the time He hit puberty.....memorized the prophecies by 13 or so....
what are you referring to? the books of the old testament were all written long before jesus died. the last books of the old testament were likely authored no less than 400 BCE, and the rest is centuries older, starting at likely around 1500 BCE. their contents formed the laws by which jews lived. do you have any idea what you're talking about?
Yeah but it turns out that there were prophecies before he was thirteen... for instances his birth: He would be born in Bethlehem. Did Jesus some how "memorize" that he would be born in Bethlehem when he was in his womb then somehow get the message to His parents that they must go to Bethlehem for His birth because he was trying fulfill the prophecies of the Messiah. FYI: Messianic prophecy is the collection of over 300 predictions in the Old Testament about the future Messiah of the Jewish people. These predictions were written by multiple authors, in numerous books, over approximately 1,000 years. Messianic Prophecy is so dramatic today, because with the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls and the reliability of the Septuagint version of the Old Testament (both of which have been proven to exist prior to the time Jesus walked on the earth) you can be assured that these prophecies were not conspired after-the-fact. It has been calculated that anyone just fulfilling 8 Messianic prophecies by chance is next to impossible..1 in 10 to the 17th power (1 in 100,000,000,000,000,000), 48 prophecies to be 1 in 10 to the 157th power, (or 1 in 10,00,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000, 000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000, 000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000, 000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000, 000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000..consider the number of zeros for all 300+ prophecies!) Today, the only way Bible scoffers can explain away this astronomical probability is to discredit the prophecies in one way or another. Their only alternative is to accept that God is the author of scriptures. The Bible is reliable book of genuine divine prophecy, You can trust it! The evidence of divine prophecy presented here is just a tiny portion of proofs available to establish the divine origin of the Bible. Yet, they are more than sufficient to prove the inspiration of the Bible. There will always be men who scoff at the Bible.
He obviously couldn't have read about his own birth before he was born, what do you think of the 1000's of other correct prophecies from all other faiths, for example, Native American prophecies....which are very descriptive or our present times.
i think it's important to note that not all christians take every word of the bible as the absolute truth. one can be just as devout a christian without believing jesus was actually born in bethlehem, etc. history prophesized vs. prophesy historicized. i hate how "christian" only means one thing to critics in these forums - and that is that a christian is someone who interprets the bible word for word, letter for letter, rigid rigid rigid.
What is the point of their prophecies? And do the prophecies give light to an eternal existence after death? Also, how do their prophecies benifit mankind?
The Bible is a book that is not given to loose interpretation. If that were the case you would have a good argument that the Bible was a book of giberish. The prophecies concerning Jesus' first coming were quite literal and the prophecies concerning his second coming are the same. It is because of the accuracy of the first 300+ prophecies that Christians have a sure foundation to look forward to the fulfillment of his second coming.
You are aware that some god didn't write the bible, right? People wrote the bible, people just about the same as you and I. Smart people, perhaps, but people just the same. The average christian thinks those people were inspired by god, but they know that god was not the author of the bible.
The author of the Bible was God because the people writing the Bible were inspired by God which should be obvious by the fact these simple men wrote history before it happened. And knowing the future and yet having no way of controlling it.
hell, with the way history repeats itself it isn't too hard to guess the future. But other than that all you did was repeat what I said, which is that christians believe that the bible was inspired by god. But sorry, god was not the author, the muse maybe, but not the author.
Since you appear to not be interested enough to find out for yourself, why should I waste my time, since I don't care if you agree? Here's a prediction from 1844, though not a prophecy, I think it was insightful. "The earth is not their brother but their enemy, they conquer it and move on. They will devour everything and the earth will become a desert." Chief Seattle, 1844.
That is true for you, but to many it is a book written by men, and that is just as valid a conclusion, if not more valid.
How? One way is that time is not linear, so the present contains all of the events that have or will ever happen. That is my current best guess.
Smart men can have considerable foresight, especially when they have thousands of years for their predictions to happen. It isn't hard. I predict that sometime in the future someone will be born and they will call him Bob I predict that the weather will turn and cause long winters to plague mankind. I predict that somewhere in the west a man will be killed for standing up for his beliefs. I predict that a great leader will be born and guide his followers to enlightment Easy, espeically if my time frame is indefinite, and people wiser than I, or "career" prophets would even be better at it. I could probably rattle off 300 of these that would happen in the indefinite future. And hell, if someone got ahold of my prophecies then they could do a good job trying to fufil them if they so intended.
All faiths have their fanatical exponents. I am sure that most people are smart enough to know that no matter the faith, there are bound to be folks of all different kinds in any of them. But although I do realize it, why is it so important?
