Yeah, it is mildly amusing some of the posts in this forum. Even Colezno and I are able to carry on long conversations on AIM that do not include negative faith-based comments towards one another, and he is a satanist.

I especially love posts where someone is calling a Christian close minded and hateful, ending it with cuss words and telling you that they wish you ill.

This is a good point, and for once I agree with you, JDFU. There have been many good things done by Christians. They do a lot of work all over the world to feed the poor and help the needy, and I commend that. Even the much slandered Catholic Church does a hell of a lot of relief work.

The thing I dislike about missionaries is that they're mostly trying to convert people. I understand it's seen as important in your religion, that anyone not believing in Jesus is going to hell and you want to help. But that is a very self centered view, it basically says everyone else is backwards and wrong and you only are right and you only can help; it negates every other culture in a sense. I think the poor that the missionaries go after would be better helped if the missionaries focused less on conversions and more on getting food and aid to them. A friend of mine went to Mexico to do some missionary work and told me about how the poor would only be fed if they proclaimed their faith in the type of Christianity being taught by whatever church. That's not what Jesus taught, this conditional love and help. Whatever their faith, no one deserves to suffer like the poor in many places of the world do every day.

EDIT: Hey, by the way, Sera was talking about fanatics, not just everyday believers, and she wasn't only talking about Christians (you'll notice she mentioned Muslims). Hell, Stalin was a fanatical atheist and wrought death by the millions. Fanaticism and Fundamentalism generally is missing the spirit of the teaching and that's what she was condemning, and what I too condemn

That's been highly debated, as are so many aspects of translation. I believe that it was... simply because the word translated "virgin" is used elsewhere in the Bible to describe other married women, but for Mary it was translated as "virgin". Here's a good article on it.

Believe me I know what she is condemning. If it were not for Christ christians would not be over in other countries trying to help anyone. Jesus said the poor would always be with us. Yet the greates poverty is not the physical condition but the spiritual condition. And I believe people who donot know Jesus are backwards. Many religions would rather see their people starve in the streets then kill the cow that is walking past them. Thinking it might be a past relative. The bible puts value on human life, where other beliefs put value on things, or animals. Christians do believe they are right based on the bible and often they are the only one's helping, and at great sacrifice.

You really don't get it do you. You really can't put 2 + 2 together. You think being a member of a church has anything to do with being spiritual. The reason 50,000 children die a day is because the moral values of the bible have been ignored. You have men sleeping with other men, and then sleeping with other woman, all the time spreading the Aids virus around because these people have no moral values. What on earth does this have to do with church membership? When humans live like animals they die like animals. And innocent children will suffer because the standards of the bible they laugh at. And don't talk to me about twisted values, your the one who believes the right of a woman to murder her children by abortion is more important the the life of her children. The moral decline in this world has brought this catastrophe on us. And it does not matter how much aid we send these countries. From the beginning it has been Christians that have come to the aid of a starving world. Even today it is Christians who are leading the fight. Where have you been? You always see Christian missions giving out food all over the world, where are the atheist missions?

AIDS was spread in america starting with gays. In Africa and Asia it is mainly spread through hetero sex and drug use (needles). Guess where AIDS is worse, America or the third world?
