    Make things.

    and learn things.

    I enjoy absorbing information.

Really, the more you look at it there is a lot of good evidence behind the idea that controlled, creatable at will black holes would be the most revolutionary technological thing ever, on the order of the introduction of. well, Everything, all present technology we have now, it would be a similar gap

from hunter gatherers to us, and from us to people who can control black holes.

    that's pretty much that hierarchy.

    black holes would do it.

this type of technology will lead to computers like in resident evil and halo-interactive and with an interface resembling a human

    gaming doesn't matter.

peter molyneux is just paving the way for military hardware.

fortunately we're training the next generation of americans to be able to use it.

Precisely. Things like Jarvis from Iron Man aren't too far fetched.

Anything that can be done by a video game is being done somewhere else in a much cooler more adult fashion. All the "engines" powering video games - IE the "Unreal Engine" for a lot of first person shooters - pales in comparison to the simulation technology that is out there military and otherwise. This is nothing compared to what is coming, in video games, and in real world technology.

Yes this can very well be another revolutionary way of storytelling for the 21st century as movies were for the 20th century. It's still in development but even with that said I doubt it will live up to the hype/expectations that it currently boast to feature. For one Peter Molyneux (the guy talking in the video) has made ambitious goals before and failed not miserably but enough that he felt he needed to apologize. Second, the goals that he set out on before are nowhere close to the plateau of goals that he looks to accomplish this time around the hype bend.

How do you know you are a geek

You knew who the guy was in the video without checking anything at all.........

edit: I should also say, he's done some REALLY nice stuff in video game AI I mean, I was kinda disappointed by fable. but the monster training system in black and white, for when it came out, and how small the save-files are, it's a nice tidy little system

it's not super revolutionary in reality, but it's nice, it's pretty tidy, and it's nice

The difference is it looks as if this is already a fairly successful project, unless of course the video was staged. Not saying I think it was, but I'm saying that's the only thing that I could think of on how this could not deliver. It looks to me like it does exactly what it's supposed to do.

Have they posted the video of the E3 conference where mass amounts of strangers were supposed to meet and interact with him?

The man is a gaming pioneer, and one of the most successful gaming developers of all time. I'm sure you've heard of Populous, Black & White, Theme Park, and his most recently popular Fable all of which are his babies.

Easy, it's mini games, just like black and white.

it's like a ps2 eye toy, it doesn't need to be super high rez, because all the reflective surfaces aren't that good (surface of the water)

the kid, milo, has a few states programmed, and he playacts them modularly.

it's still just a toy, like I said, good for autistic kids, but neurotypicals, not so much. there are things with less elaborate trappings, that would be better.

It's still the start of something insanely incredible. Within 10 years milo will be a 3 ft robot kid you can buy at Wal Mart for $399.99.

He'll even teach your kid how to clean up his room and keep his secrets.(I'm sure he'll report to parents in secret. )

The fucked up part will be when the robot Milo learns multiplication faster than your kid does.....

In fact, does anybody remember Sea Man for DreamCast? You know, with Leonard Nemoy? That was about 8-10 years ago. Now we have this milo kid.

Ten years, robot kid companions at wal-mart, mark my words....

    EEEEEEEEEEEPPPAAAAAAAAA!!!!

but milo will already know his timetables, he'll just be "unlocking" them as certain things are done, instructions are followed to make him unlock them

when we get to something heuristic, I will be impressed.

That's just the thing, there was just a video demo not an interactive demo (far as reporters/journalist on the E3 floor) so for me that's a huge sign that they aren't ready to have it officially "tested" yet. Also there are just things they probably aren't gonna get around like tone and accents far as the voice recognition. I'm not trying to say Lionhead will totally fail, they will be sure to accomplish some things, like the motion capture shows promise for instance. I just don't think they will clean the plate so to speak.

it will have to "get to know you"

I can't tell you how many times I had to do any given gesture on black and white before it learned my mouse idiosyncrasies.

    and that's the amazing bit

the rest, the things that are impressive to 99% of the people who watch the video, like the animation of a toon sulking, is just data, probably not even using much good procedural stuff (like spore promised and failed to deliver on in sufficiency imo)

Well of course it will have to get to know you. It's adaptive and reactive. It's not a ready made friend on a disc.

But if he doesn't like you, you can reset him and start him over.

Bonkai, I hear what you're saying but I would think just like Tickle Me Elmo was released in different countries with different accents and languages that they would have thought that through. I know track record says a lot about what to expect typically, but you'd have to think that with past failures and the impressive complexity of this project they'd be pretty determined. Afterall, nobody gets in the history books for a bunch of half impressive, half assed creations.
