I know, right? I'm just really happy to see that the mainstream is starting to embrace the peaceful symbols, maybe...just maybe they're starting to embrace the idea of peace? Just a thought.

I already found out that lots of people in the mainstream embrace the idea of peace. They just don't whore around with it all the time

There will always be people that are just flirting with a subculture for shits and giggles and there will always be commercialization that will take advantage of the subculture and there will always be the 'real' folk of that subculture to judge them all. Nothing new about any of this.

If you truly care about the progressing of your elected subculture, then my recommendation would be to use patience and education as a way to deal with those who might not be as 'into it' as you are.

as we are, united as a group of individuals against the norm, we are strong. falling against faux hipsters and pop retards, it aint worth it to distinguish yourself amongst the masses. They don't mean shit. Be yourself and don't give a shit about trends, fads, cliques, etc, they mean nothing. Your life is your life. whether hip, yuppie, mod, etc, live life. Contemplating these groups is a complete waste of time.. it's all subjective

    woa woa dude
I just couldnt help but stop here.
I know how you feel but if mainstream keeps doing their ignorant thing we have no culture anymore in 100 years from now!!
Maybe its good that people are opening up to this, maybe it starts with the clothes but they will see further when older and understand what its really about.

personaly the whole "hippie" trend seems (to me anyway) to be one of those things you expect to see in the summer: peace signs, tie-dye,... it's everywhere -along wth all these bold colorful shirts and white jeans and things that are sold in all the stores every single summer.
I think the whole "hippie obsessio" was a fad for me... I agree with the people on this thrad who said that the 100% identification with it can be a phaise. For me it oly last two to three years. I'm not even a vegetarian anymore... but I still have days where I'll feel more open, receptive, chill about stuff.

Yeah, the "hippie trend" will draw people to the forums here, if the people are really interested in researcing and looking into the subculture.

hahah thats a great point. it's so much easier to find some clothes that are more my style because of the new trends. as for people being fake, if they really annoy me that much, i just don't bother with them. but it takes a lot for people to annoy me so much i wouldn't be friends with them...

Bah, i know what you mean.
But whatever, just think, its not like they're rubbing it in your face

"AMG IM A HIPPIE NOW. I HAVE BEEN ONE LONGER THAN YOU. BAHA. DuhhH what? Whos Hendrix? "

the good news is, you know who you are and everyone else does too , so while everyone grows out of this "fad  " you will still be the same old hippie man.

but all - in -all , i understand completely . it does get annoying. :toetap05:

"Life is pretty simple: you do some stuff. most fails, some works. you do more of what works. if it works big, others quickly copy it. then you do something else. the trick is the doing something else."

    -Leonardo Da Vinci-

    just some words of advice.

i remember tonz of stuff that people used to copy back when i was in school. i just remembered that i was the creator and they wouldnt last long. i would come out with bigger and better stuff and they would take a while to catch on. eventually they give up because your just to good. =]

    create your life. =D

Topher. you are real family. as am i. its people like us that make the festivals beautiful and full of life. we are the real hippies. Neo-hippies of the new age i guess you would call it. we are collections of every color of the rainbow. mentally, spiritually, and physically. the people you are describing are the mainstream people. idolizing stuff. its the true artists that think completely free. thats why most of the good quotes have come from artists. and their work is so beautifull. its all about being yourself! having your own perception=]

so.. i could go on for hours. not sure if i missed anything. but im stoppin there. =D

I like the peace sign, I wear in in a bracelet.
But not everyone who wears the sign knows and cares what's behind it.
'Round here, it's "cool" to be kind of hippie, but "true" hippies are almost frowned upon.

Don't worry about the silly teenagers ;)

I'm sure they're aware of the fact it stands for peace. And does it really matters if they don't know more about it?

    Remembered or told yourself?

These are the kind of hippie ramblings that annoys me the most actually. Who's mainstream and who's hippie is not easy to see at all. I think people can be both at the same time and also look like both but are neither, but especially I think it is not important AT ALL. Of course these groups exist but the group is made of individuals.
So, although group definitions and stereotypes are handy indeed, you are not solely your group definition. It gets even more annoying when people add supreme characteristics to their own group and bad characteristics to the mainstream.
Hippies are not important, they aren't more spiritual enlightened and not everyone in the mainstream corner wears abercrombie (and for those who do, just let them fucking do it (at least they're not ruining your subculture right )) or watch tv all day. Which, by the way, some hippies can do very well.

If there's another hippie trend it's probably because fashion decided it's retro time again and not because they're following you :D. And how are you the creator if they're following a trend? Did the fashion industry looked at you or at a popular style from the sixties. Ok, ok, I'll stop. I just got annoyed by that post obviously.
Oh yes, about the festival thing. We're all beautiful people, you don't need hippies at all to make a festival full of life. People go to festivals to have fun anyway. The one thing that I liked most of your 3 posts there is what you added the last. We are all family, don't limit your openmindedness to the hippies. Because for one, it's a small group and two: they're just as imperfect as everyone. Hippies idolize just as much, just different people. People copy and borrow ideas all the time, it's no big deal. When it comes to clothing and music it is about what that individual wants to wear or listen to, who cares if they're not just as hippie as you!

No, it doesn't matter at all to me. I'm not afraid of them "stealing my fashion", because I don't exactly wear full on hippie clothes. And even if I did, to me, a peace sign on a T-shirt is not really "hippie clothes".

People wear what they feel comfortable in. A hippie is is not determined by his or her clothes :D

this is really crazy :p ninety percent of our time, us humans spend on useless thinking.
Clothes are okay, but were all naked underneath, and all the same, so why spend so much time worrying about it?
sure clothes can express a message, but this is not always accurate!
