LSD isn't about creating alternative realities, it isn't about causing Earth to collapse at any minute...it's a tool and should be used as such. I agree with 2-CE's; each and every person's spiritual/religious experience is utopian in every right, however, you have to respect everyone else's right to their own Utopia. By having "role models", whether it be Leary or Shulgin, we shouldn't bog down society with our epitaphs, but encourage everyone to make their own decision about God. Isn't this the foundation upon which America was built in the first place? The general public relies on commonwealth ideals to propel their life into higher ventures when, it is in fact, that we each have our own spiritual obligations that drive us to higher enlightenment and sense of being. Relying on a third party to make our decisions for us, even if at our own fault (as was the case for the "hippy" party in the 60's), is nothing more than the standard train of thought for your average American and makes "psychonauts" (for the lack of a better term) nothing more than a cliche'. Make your own God.
i agree, everyone must form their own individual perception of the spiritual form; then the world will change when there are 6 billion plus religions to relate and correlate and cook into a nice juicy understanding of the said, spiritual form. if every religion is personal then every religion can only have the control of one person. No religion would overpower another. they would be forced into equality and so the relating and correlating can be much more accurately definitive. all i want is a pizza though
if ones religion was trully spiritual (there is a huge difference in the 2 terms) it would never need/try to overpower another.
But that sad part is, most religions are just that, Religions. They're just as bad as our pig corporations.
First of all I want to say you don't need psychedellic drugs to turn on to god and spirituality. And a guru is a spirtual teacher, why do I need my spiritual teacher with me when I'm tripping, he doesn't think its right to take drugs for enlightenment, he wants me to fulfill my spiritual path through meditation and yoga. Hunter Thompson said this many times and I personally think he is way more credible than Tim Leary, one of the reasons being read any of Leary's books and then read any of Hunter Thompsons.. anyways he said, "We're (him and William Burroughs) the last unrepentant public dope fiends, and he's 70 years old claiming to be clean. But he hasn't turned on drugs like that lying, treacherous, sold-out punk Tim Leary." he then goes on to say (and this is why I trip, well one of the reasons the other being it makes the musical experience amazing a la Grateful Dead, Merry Prankster style which I feel is necessary in the balance) "Drugs usually enhance or strengthen my perceptions and reactions, for good or ill. They've given me the resilience to withstand repeated shocks to my innocence gland. The brutal reality of politics alone would probably be intolerable without drugs." The thing about tripping is it allows me to get in touch with the side of myself that is free when I trip (hard), I end up dancing, experimenting with ideas, smilin, singing, writting (at least for humor if not anything else), and just get to go with the flow and do everything based on how it feels. That alone is a spiritual experience. Seein the hair on my arm turn into little inch worms and crawl down my arm is not a spiritual experience but when I add that to some of my writting it sure sounds cool right? There are so many beneficial aspects of tripping that any one can experience on any given trip, and they always change and are different and new, thats what makes acid and mushrooms so special. If you put a limit on what the right way to trip is then your puting on boundries which in my opinion defeats the purpose. And fuck Tim Leary, he wasn't a guru, he was the high priest for acid heads who couldn't hold on to something real and tangible, you can't buy enlightenment for $8 to $10 a hit, and you can't buy love for $15 to $25 a pill (mdma). You have to find them within you, and without drugs.
I agree in general, but sometimes, drugs can be a powerful tool on your path, so don´t say, you have to find enlightenment and love without them. Of course, you have to reflect what happens to you on a trip, and for a reasonable reflection, you have to be sober. You can find a lot of things inside yourself during a trip, good and bad things. But they´re all worthless, if you don´t take the time to reflect.
of course you cant find enlightenment with any outside influences....illumination comes from within. but acension is a long proccess and i know personally psychedelics have helped me take some giant leaps along the way. and for that they have my gratitude and respect.
There's no reason why one can't mix Kesey with Leary. One can seek illumination through a joyous celebration of the cosmos, as well as doing the heavy "Tibetan Book of the Dead" thing. Which is kind of a bummer in its own right. I kind of like Art Kleps' approach to the whole subject. Read "Millbrook" to get an idea. Oncet upon a time, I ran into some people calling themselves the "Organization of Interplanetary Adepts." This was around the time all the Orange Sunshine and Windowpane were floating around. I tripped with a couple of them on some "Holy Acid" they had (and were pretty tight with, the bastards), and they didn't spend all their time navel-gazing. There was a lot of interpersonal relating going on. So, acid doesn't have to be all solemn and introspective. On the other hand, I am against using the Supreme Sacrament as a party intoxicant. There is a universe of difference between "partying" and a Dionysian Celebration of Life. I also don't advocate using it when very young. Be patient, wait 'till your 20s, get some life under your belt, and you'll appreciate it that much more. Just a couple things I've learned and done.
Unfortunately the only LSD-centered religions these days consist of some old bearded guys picking you up in a black van, forcefeeding you a ten-strip and leaving you locked in a shed for a few years...not that I disagree with that, entirely.
hey man, i'm all with you on the exploration thing, but its not a crime to have fun either. there is nothing wrong with tripping out and just fucking around, if you happen to have the acid to do it with. i myself have only done shrooms and dxm as far a psychs go, and i know that i much prefer sitting in my room at night on shrooms than going out and just being stoned on shrooms in public. i havn't done acid, but i've read a ton on it, and it sounds like it wouldn't be a bad idea to drop and just go to a party or something, but it wouldnt' be a bad idea to explore your mind with it either. people can do what the want with what they want, it doesn't matter if they are looking for answers or looking to get high, they're both cool in my book the pranksters, IMO, had the right idea with lsd. i would have done the same thing they did if i pulled up to millbrook and a bunch of people in robes came out and looked down on me for listening to fuckign music and having a good time. i think that, well not leary, but a lot of his followers were too much of tight-asses when it came to the subject. if you're into mind expansion and the perfect inner trip, so be it, but thats not everyone's bag. o well i've rambled on for a while.
the only problem iv observed with just tripping to have fun is, for most its only fun for so long, and then a bad trip comes along and really fucks with them, as bad trips can be incredibly heavy and stay with an individual for a while. while the spiritual tripper is more likely to view and expirience the "bad trip" as a spiritual lesson, somthing to learn and grow from. more of a positive expirience than a negative.
yeah i know what you mean, i just don't understand why some people apply rules to tripping, a time when you're supposed to break out and explore, why confine it to sitting on the floor with a candle burning? i mean, there is absolutely nothing wrong wiht that, i really enjoy meditating while tripping, mainly because the only psych i've been doing is shrooms, and thats much more of a spiritual inner trip rather than a recreational drug. i just don't see the point in telling other people that they are using a substance the wrong way, who the hell cares what other people are doing with it, the love is still spreading
You CAN use LSD in the wrong way...don't trip at "parties" (social gatherings where which the majority of people are "getting fucked up.") Don't trip for fun...while I'll admit that it IS fun, most enjoyment I gain from LSD is from introspective construction...and not listening to the same song over and over. I also find it pertinent that you focus more on your own actions during the trip rather than others actions (or reactions, while they recoil in horror at you spilling orange soda on their carpet several times). Tripping, whilst on LSD, shrooms, salvia, or 2-CT-7, is a time to explore. Know no limits, and bother with no one else's boundaries. Explore your mind to the fullest, and so long as you hurt no one or damage anything invaluable (besides your ego), you will be just in deciding your own fate. However, Jonas, I must disagree; no "love" is spreading. It's the new millenium...in the 60's, people were worried about getting bunk hits, depressed trippers getting them "down", and the such, however, nowadays, the world is a much dangerous place. School-shootings, nuclear explosives, and bad acid, oh my...just heed my advice that you trust who you trip with to your life's extent, or may you be sorry one day.
i don't like tripping to explore anymore. I did so much of it that I'd rather just eat em and have fun. But that's me, and it's not a safe approach for everyone, or more importantly, you might want to actually do the exploring thing. Do what you wanna do, while taking into consideration certain things from experienced trippers.
Anything that alters ones mind/spirit can be used as a tool, or it can be destructive, or it can be just mind altering while you're on it. If you trip just to have fun, see weird stuff, hang out with friends so be it. Tripping to expand, good for you. The only pet peeve I have is this weird homogenization between drug experiences that seems to be around. It's like with some folk there's no difference to them between dropping a few hits of cid and drinking a bottle a Jack. To them it's all about just getting 'fucked up'. It's weird, like there's nothing there.
