    why not?
    in tests like these assumptions are necessary. without this assumption, there is no right answer

    no assumption is wrong in these tests
    these tests are all abotu using the information given correctly, not adding possibility to the situation

    when not enough information is given in the question, assumptions must be made. by the answer he has given for this particular question, he is assuming that it is impossible to overtake the person in last place, which is not always the case

    I agree, although by 'he' I assume you are talking about Bedlam which i must point out is a female.
