I am certainly not saying that he isn't ignorant and homophobic. What I am saying is that he comes off as a takeoff on that. He's so extreme and so rabid that it can be hard to believe that he is serious.

 

Didn't really mean that. I meant more that he is so ridiculous you can hardly believe he's real. You'd struggle do a pisstake of Pat Robertson or Phelps, because the truth is far more risible.

Which might explain why the president hangs with him. But I'd say it's more likely that he's just willing to side with anyone who'll get him votes.

 

Exactly, just like this Phelps guy. If he wants to go around doing this stupid stuff, then he deserves to have his ass kicked by a bunch of bikers. I say he should get what's coming to him.

What is strange about this is that Phelps is actually protesting against gays, he's just attacking the military to do it. Go figure. What this has done is solidify a bunch of angry, christian pseudo-thugs to rally against him, the very people who would otherwise be his allies.

Protesting at a funeral is despicable. But to see these two right-wing groups battle each other is funny. The pitiful phelps group of protesters can't number more than a half dozen, the Patriot Guard Riders seem to number at least 50 to 100 for the occasion. (See: OPERATION OKLAHOMA )

Patriot Guard Riders While I understand that the Mission of the Patriot Guard does state that anyone may join, the protesters are made up of (among others) Christian and Veterans Motorcycle Clubs, traditionally two very homophobic groups.

Indeed. I'm wondering if they're fighting more for their own credibility as "moderate" nutjobs than anything else.
