that's the worst thing i ever seen about the us so far (and i've seen bush on TV, the iraq war and Troy with brad pitt). WHAT!!! just recall me the definition of democraty? I might have misundertood it...
yeah, that's ridiculous. I grew up with half these books Some, like the Alice series or the Anastasia series - why the hell? I remember one Alice book had a girl who killed herself, but that should not be a grounds for banning it. If anything, it's a way to get such issues into an enviroment where people feel that they CAN talk about it.
I've read one fourth of this list. Every book there took me into another reality, another way to see things. I don't understand why "Julie of the wolves" is disputed! What in the good fuck is that about!?! I love every book that I have read, and now I feel like I should read the rest of them.... Holly PS...everyone else follow suit
Anyone else notice that every one of those books happens to be the type that makes you think? The type that shows that life isn't perfect as many people want us to think. Banning these books doesn't protect kids from real life.
Here's one: http://www.ala.org/ala/oif/bannedbooksweek/challengedbanned/challengedbanned.htm When I was in college, I had plans to teach English in Public High School, until I became familiar with the politics of book censorship. My temper is way too short for me to be able to make a living while dealing with ignorant, narrow-minded book-burners.
I've read 24 of those books, and except for Go Ask Alice, I loved and cherish every one of them. I can see how some would want to ban some of the books, but others I really can't see the logic (no matter how twisted) behind, The Face On The Milk Carton? how is that at all subversive? people astound me sometimes, ah well, I've got reading to do, I've been looking for a good book list!
