When asked if he said the statements to hurt E. Jean Carroll, Trump said "No, I just wanted to defend myself, my family and frankly the presidency."

Trump attorney Alina Habba then questioned Trump about his 2019 comments responding to E. Jean Carroll's sexual assault allegations, asking if he viewed the allegation as false.
“Yes I did," Trump said. "She said something that I considered a false accusation — totally false."
Judge Lewis Kaplan, however, cut Trump off, saying: "Everything after 'yes I did' is stricken."

The defense rested and Judge Kaplan dismissed the jurors, instructing them to return Friday morning to hear closing arguments and said they'll likely have the case to begin deliberating by lunchtime.

This verdict must hurt Trump's campaign. He's got to lose at least some support from his base. Of course his hardcore followers will never abandon him, but those who have been leaning toward him should start leaning the other way. They may not vote for Biden, it's more likely that they won't vote for either, but that's still a vote that Trump loses. With more trials awaiting him soon we'll see what sort of shape he's in by the RNC in July.

 

Nikki Haley questioned Trump's cognitive abilities and now a lot of people are doing the same. Even if Trump beats her in July, the Biden campaign will continue with the message. Two candidates whose biggest pitch is, "My opponent is no longer up to the task!"
