the 60s may TECHNICALLY be over, yes, they are. but the thoughts and people of the 60's didnt die with the decade. they taught their offspring their ideas and visions-thats why this generation is making a hippie comeback. people need to get a clue that hippies didnt die out.
i know what u mean. it isnt about whether or not u dress like a hippy. or about whether u smell or not. its about the belief and the spirit within. some people are just too narrow minded and believe exactly what they're told instead of making up their own mind.
Ok.....Your worrying me. Surely that can't happen, not with all the progress with things like women's rights and Gay rights?
are you sure? from my side of the pond, I see Ike and McCarthy revving their ghostly engines! That said, history tend to be circular, so for every greay there comes a rainbow. we could be the FOREFRONT of the next one.... Will we be able to take what te Flower Children and the political factions learned and used and apply it with our additional knowledge and (hopefully) enlightenment (gay rights, women's rights, ecological movement et al) and make the nexy rainbow of greater impact? great (tounge in cheek) quote I heard last night: "countries have spheres of influence and Australia has Paupa New Guinea in it's sphere of influence is the same way the US has a sphere of influence from Guam to, say, Afghanistan." Spheres of influence are mostly a WWII byproduct, for non European nations.
I do belive there's change in the wind and that we are at the forefront of something signifigant as long as we dont loose sight or focus. We have learned a great deal from our older and wiser brothers and sisters. And we can also learn from their mistakes along the way. I know a few elders that were there back in the 60s in Berkely, San Fran, etc. and they'll tell you what a special time they witnessed, but in the same breath the mistakes they made along the way. If we can see it like this, they blazed the trail, and we can carry it on. I see the look of hope, expectaion, and confidence that the elders give us young people. They believe in us more than we believe in ourselves!! We DO have the capacity to carry on.
I like that idea. Maybe we all are already part of the next rainbow and don't realise it? Maybe our opportunity will pass without us even knowing? Newo, that guy that said "The 60s are over, get a clue" obviously doesn't realise that he is a puppet of the media, the government and the establishment. HE needs to get a clue.
I don't know about all that, but if he expects hippies to be trendy he's missing the point completely.
