Did you not know that when the Olympics first started in Greece it was originally planned to unite all the nations?..During the Olympics wars were put on hold and people from everywhere around came there to celebrate the team spirit and athletic skills, it was all about that olive branch on top of the winner's heads!...

If peace is the goal, which you just said, then obviously politics are the purpose of the Olympics. People to work through differences.

I can name several Olympics moved and stopped because of political reasons. Because as an event of international cooperation, it is tied to politics at the hip. The argument that it somehow is all about throwing things and swimming is absurdly dumb.
