The Catholic Church is FAR from perfect. They banned Bibles because they didn't want the common people to read the Bible for themselves and discover that The Catholic Church's teachings had very little if any Biblical basis. They knew they would loose their control of society if the common people knew the truth. Biblical scholars consider Wycliff and Tyndale's translations to be very acurrate. The Douy-Rheims is full of inaccuracies and redactions. ie The Second Commandament (no idols) is removed and the Tenth Commandment is split into two to make up the difference. Kill them All! Let God sort them out! This is a quote from a Pope! What a kind Christlike attitude.... If the Church were perfect they wouldn't have a bad habit of breaking the Sixth Commandment(You shall not Kill) in the name of serving God. Church leaders including the Popes gave their approval for murder! ie The Inquistion, the murder of the Waldenses and the Hugenots etc.... If the Church were perfect why did Pope Pious XXII (12) call Adolf Hitler The Defender of The Faith. If the Church were perfect why do they look the other way when it comes to pedophile priests? "ALL have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23 All means everyone including the Pope. The next verse reads" They are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus. Romans 3:24 Redemption comes from God not from the Church. The Bible says that if they speak not according to my word it is because there is no light in them. Figure things out for yourself. Just don't blindly believe what some priest tells you. I challange you to approach the word of God with an open mind and test the teachings of the Catholic Church against the word of God. Read the Bible for yourself.
dude I ASSURE you .....the Roman Catholic Chruch DOESNT send out missionaries.......I even dont count the nuns at the soup kitchen i volunteer at....
so then do you feel that people should look up to the RCC?? and that maybe it shouldn't be as powerful as it is.......
1 Timothy 5 23 "Stop drinking only water, and use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses."
How so? Honeufudge said the Hail Mary and other Catholic prayers are displeasing to God because we repeat them. I posted many times in Scripture (not from tradition nonetheless) where repetitive prayer is righteous. Also I gave a telling scripture where Paul identifies himself as the spiritual father of other Christians. Therefore, unless Paul wrote a sin into Scripture, it is okay to call people your spiritual father. How do you interpret these things if I interpret them wrong? (PS I recently moved and so have limited access to internet. Please excuse my late replies)
Umm, do a little research. Who do you think Bl. Mother Teressa was? Who do you think runs this website? http://www.uscatholicmission.org/ The CAtholic Church is a missionary church. Just because religious (meaning nuns and clergy) do not work in your soup kitchen, doesn't mean they are not out there in the world working (and being martyred, still) for the glory of God.
I feel the example of the angel you brought I felt it more of a intro like how I use "dear Father in heaven.....Your will be done." that prayer i use always but then i go on to what I feel like talking to God about. But the thing is that THOSE ARE ANGELS and we are not their in heaven and thats their job to pray.
Whats the thing God said about doing good deeds but if you dont accept JC your still damned? She still bowed to Images and had statues of saint just look at previous post of posters and how that is against God and you and I have already spoke about his....... Well i wasnt saying that just because clergy weren't at my soup kitchen they aren't preach the Word but looks take a look even Morons, Jehovah W. and Protestant you see their followers trying to talk to people on the street and so for but i never in seen a priest in Miami out passing a flyer or nothing.
That is still no excuse for murdering those that dare to question your authority or don't agree with you. Jesus told his followers to leave an area if they were rejected. He didn't tell his followers to kill those that would not listen to them. Jesus could have killed his opponents with one snap of his fingers but re did not do so. The fact is that the Roman Catholic Church has a documented history of murdering and otherwise oppressing anyone that dared to stand up to them and spread The Truth. If the Catholic Church were perfect then their teachings would be in perfect harmony with the Word of God.
If you pray infront of a cross, dows that mean you are bowing down to an image of something that is "in heaven, on earth, or under the earth" as you claim Catholics do infront of statues of Jesus, Mary and all the Saints? You fail, I think, to understand the problem with your strict interpretation of the 10 commandments. god commanded the Hebrews to make cherubim images. Did God command the Hebrews to sin? God forbids the worshiping of the images, not the images themselves, or the worshiping of the things those images represent. The command was against making an idol and saying "This (actual item) is God". We say, this icon depicts Jesus, now lets experience God by meditating on what the icon depicts (for example the crucifixion)
Although the Catholic church may be part of what is described and even though the Catholic church is very large, it seems to be describing something even larger than the Catholic church. So I tend to believe that this is referring to all false religion on the earth and not to any one religion.
Just a thought about prayer, I would say you are both right. There is nothing wrong with repeating a prayer, even word for word if that is what is in your heart but just repeating a prayer over and over again just to say you've been praying is vain repetition, especially if it's not one that came from your heart in the first place.
That is what I was trying to get at. Thanks OWB. AT98BooBoo, find me an entirely sinless Christian and I will convert. Some sins may be bigger (some of the Popes murdering their opponents), and some may be smaller (a simple lie to protect someones feelings), but we are all sinners. There are also two types of teachings, authoritative (infallible) and non-infallible. The Crusades and Inquisition are non infallible teachings, meaning they are human teachings. Things like the Virgin birth, immaculate conception, infallibility of the pope, are infallible teachings.
In big letters to show the huge importance of this scripture!! Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. (Exodus 20:3-6 Also: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idolatry#Idolatry_in_the_Bible
I figured as much, Glad I could help out I don't think were talking about sinless Christians but about the the religion itself, in other words if a religion has allowed it's followers to be used and abused that would call in to question the validity of that religion. Did those who engaged in the Crusades and Inquisition know that those were non infallible teachings at the time and if so why did they do these things that seems so contradictory to what the Bible says? It just seems they were badly mislead and are those things any indication of how Catholics could be mislead in the future?
