Ah, hotrodding in the old days.....changing plugs for a hotter spark...fitting bigger carbs or polishing the inlet valves....matching ports on a new manifold to the heads....new cams with hydraulic lifters.....even fitting bigger engines if you could shoehorn the sucker in. Now you just plug a new chip in to the EMS. Where's the romance and the fun in that? Not to mention that the "cannon" exhausts on fours sound like giraffes farting, and neons on cars are just stupid.
.....most people don't do their own tune, or only do a rudamentary one, that's it's own whole job. You have to build a motor that can hold that tune on the new chip, you know.... Or you can build your own mega-squirt, and tune your own mega-squirt, if you really want to do it yourself. Neons where cool for like ten minutes, then that wore off.... not like anyone would put them on a car they're serious about, you know. Swapping carbs won't squeeze a thousand horsepower out of four cylinders, but a crazy tune on a crazy build can (though for how long... ehh) Stop watching movies
^48,000 mi orig. on an '82 ?? I'd be checking out everything I could about that car. Also, I'd be trying to get the price down a little cuz of the headliner issue. Looks cool! :2thumbsup:
googling... from what I can see after three google clicks, it's all custom, and if you have to ask how much it is, you probably can't afford it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VHM9bh-qlec"]American Track Truck -- Subaru Impreza WRX -- stock 2.0 liter engine -- DOMINATORâ„¢ Tracks -- WOW! - YouTube
I just realized one major problem with those.... Unless they're tied into the suspension (and then you need to worry about how, without ripping things out too horribly if something went wrong) they will naturally dig the front end in, which is fine in packed snow, but could be a disaster in loose stuff, or if you laid the hammer down in all sorts of snow..... or if you hit even a small bump and one lost it's even footing. It would cause serious body and suspension damage, not to mention damage to the track. Just sayin'. I hope I'm wrong somehow, it would really suck to have happen in the middle of nowhere or something. And yeah..... I didn't know what to google for.... and I'm lazy.
I don't watch movies about cars, and I've built (or helped build) everything from shit-fire hot English multi-carbed fours up to big block Detroit iron, early Keith Black drag motors (including the first hemi 482 big block in Australia), Aussie sixes...you name it. I actually do know what I'm talking about. Very few punters today do ANY of their own engine work. 30 years ago we did almost all of it.
I'm the guy who buys 30+ year old cars. However, I drive a subaru for regular life... its reliable and efficient and luxurious. it is cheaper and lasts longer than the sweetest early seventies monstermobile that I am in the market for right now..
I don't even know what half that is.... But I'm totally content this way. But you can still make a 4cyl shit all over the most muscley that carbed cars had to offer..... shit that would have had a pit crew, you can drive to work every day. So there's something to be said for electronic engine management. I know this will be an unpopular opinion in this thread, but 99% of drag is fucking stupid and annoying, however this opinion might relate to the names you're dropping, and such.....
subaru's symmetrical awd would negate any front end digging, amongst other driving anomalies. but i would imagine it would turn like a garbage barge, especially on the road
I meant the track itself will digg in. I don't know how to describe it.... it's like the opposite of a wheelstand? Maybe they've figured it out and it's not a problem, the american track truck site has pictures in deep snow, they seem pretty extensively tested. But yeah, no price quotes without contacting them....
