America destroys their countries and then the people here complain about refugees. Maybe we should stop destroying other countries. Naaaaa...
“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
I don't care. My life hasn't been negatively impacted by any illegal immigrant because they were an illegal immigrant. We're all pretty fucking judgmental on the subject for a group of people descended from immigrants whose process of legal citizenship involved walking through a door on Ellis Island. Our ancestors did little more than cross a body of water to get here and the country is still here.
After spending some time in a holding cell, they'll be interviewed extensively and go before an immigration judge. And three-quarters or more will be turned away. At least that's the previous batting average for Central Americans seeking asylum.
So the US interferred with every country in the world thats not what it should be? Why is it a thing, why would it matter if one country is filled with the same kind or not Seems the default position with many is we should let them in as our countries are better, which in itself is implicit racing. And we are not allowed to ask the question, why are there countries fucked. It seems to me, the entire south american continent has no excuse. They were settled by europeans, minimal interference by the US, plenty of natural resources....and yet...
The thing is that this is rarely the case. But often put like it is so. It does not only happen with ethnic backgrounds or immigrants from a certain area of the world. Lets take countries that deny they have a significant homosexual population for example. What's the big deal the majority thats firmly in charge poses it like that? If you lived in such a country and would be part of the discriminated and trivialized minority you would probably not be asking this. I have a hard time taking comments like these seriously. Who forbids you to ask the question? If you don't mean it as nonsensical hyperbole.
Anyone who says "why can't I ask questions" usualy wants to get into some racist topics in my experience. The implication is that the system is keeping the white man down and making them believe lies. Does not have to a racist question but only racists seem to want ask them.
From a sociology textbook at college. Immigrants actually are less prone to violent crimes. The data they are talking about looked at immigration rates and crime rates from the same period and found that there was actually a decrease in crime. This was in the 90's however. Violent crime associated with drug cartels isn't the same as immigrants.
One of my instructors is from Argentina originally. She says that there isn't really any racism in Argentina. I told her that sounds good! They are apparently very concerned about class though; so some form of stratification.
People should feel lucky to live in a place people try to get to and not a place people try to leave.
people who support it should line up and collect a few of them...let them into your homes and feed them give them a safe place to live on your own dime
I think he means they can make it there by themselves. Most SA countries have all the potential to be flourishing 1st world nations based on the western world, which was already introduced to them by european colonisation (correct me if i misinterprete your exact meaning, VG!). They have no excuse to go to the US. Regardless wether we agree with that (i disagree, they have just enough reasons and right to emigrate to the US as those poor 'worthless' irish ones back in the day to name one example) i'm not sure im seeing the racism in that post or the use of calling it racist... Well, they're usually aware of that. Actually, the thought that too many coming to it will make it far less attractive is what's troubling them.
I said it was an implication of racism since he said they have no excuse as they were settled by Europeans. It implies that a land settled by non-Europeans (Africans, Asians, etc.) does have an excuse to fail. Which is funny considering that some Asian nations were already modernized and flourishing when Europe was still in the Dark Ages.
