Tha Carter III is fucking insane. Everything on it is quality, except for the obvious pop rap garbage such as Lollipop. Its crazy how he has the best new song I've heard in a while, along with the worst new song I've heard in a while. My favorite track on that album is probably DontGetIt or A Milli.

    ^Fuck A Milli, look up A Billi by Jay-Z.

lol, I do have to admit I like A Milli...
Wayne has talent, but some of his shit gets old and at times he is SUPER lazy in his songs and he sounds like absolute crap, seriously.

like when he was featured on Kanye's Barry Bonds, he sounds god awful.

    None Shall Pass.

    Your point...

Uh, rap isn't technically a music genre, but it's completely interchangeable with Hip Hop in terms of common use.

See my above post. Crushes anything Wayne can do lyrically.

Who cares? Ultimately he's a moderately talented MC who releases a huge amount of mix tapes to give him an excuse to make filler filled albums.

This isn't aimed at me but I certainly don't consider it garbage and I respect him because he actually makes real Hip Hop. Here's a list of album made since 2000 that are better than anything Wayne's ever done. There's more, but for now...
    Labor Days
    Let's Get Free
    The Cold Vein
    Deltron 3030
    My World Is
    God Loves Ugly
    I'll Sleep When You're Dead
    Absence
Servants In Heaven, Kings In Hell
    Madvillainy

How fucking dare you compare Wayne with those three. You've got to be a qualified idiot to say something like that. Seriously.

And there really isn't anyone who could match this 6B Panorama by Aesop Rock, lyrical and flow genius.

Anyway: Honestly, almost all Lil' Wayne's material is wack. There are a few songs that aren't complete ****, but the guy is talking about being gangster and he actually shot himself in a mirror. Hard to take this guy seriously. /rant.

I have listened to most of his work in an attempt to make sense of all the hype. I must be missing something, because this sounds like the typical jive-ass rap about nothing I have been hearing for the past 10 years. The guy just seems like a weasel to me. His lyrics are meaningless and the production is typical of mainstream hop-hop. In other words, nothing new.

When it comes to hip-hop with actual meaning, nothing compares to Immortal Technique.

I am sick of meaningless hip-hip about fucking women, bling, cars, drinking lean, clapping people, and whatever else sums up todays hip-hop music. It's mindless drivel aimed at the lowest common denominator.

People suck on Immortal Technique's dick so fucking much only because he refuses to go mainstream.

I am not saying Immortal Technique isn't dope as fuck, but you all seriously need to loosen your grip on his nutsack.

There is honestly better hiphop than him.

Pressed Rat, you were once a 15 year old white kid too...so shut the fuck up please...

I respect your good taste in music, but you are fighting a one-sided battle. We all know Lil Wayne is not the greatest hiphop out there for sure.

Tech is good too, but your logic about Wayne can be applied to him. Most fans of Immortal Technique I've met are mostly teenage white kids with Che Guevera shirts who are way too pretentious. That's just as bad as 15 year old white kids trying to act ghetto.

You just jumped a minimum of 3 spots on my top ten favorite members list with that sentence.

While I respect your opinion on music more than most, I'm going to have to say that you're a bit off. While Immortal Technique may rap about 'real shit', so do half a dozen more artists who aren't as played out.

Eminem raps about real shit as it pertains to society - in addition to the other shit he does - , while Nas typically talks more about human condition than just about any other rapper ever. Both of them make IT look like a small child with a boombox.

When I think of mainstream rap I primarily picture Soulja Boy, who is by far the most garbage artist out right now. I think of things like Dem Franchise Boys who could only rhyme with words ending with the 'e' sound, it seems. On the same exact beat, I might add.

The other thing to take note of, and I think this to be a far more important point, is that I don't always want to hear 'real shit'. I can turn on the news any day of the week and get all the 'real shit' I need. When I turn an album on, I want to be impressed or entertained. While Wayne does not always impress me, by any means, he does entertain me at all times.

I will be the first to admit that I can name off 5-10 rappers more skilled lyrically OR style wise, but most of them I find far less entertaining. Entertainment is a value widely overlooked in the evaluation of an album.

And to be repetitive, 'real shit', is generally depressing. I LIVE in real shit. I don't need to hear about it too. If I wanted to be depressed by music, I'd grab a country album.

Ps. Whoever said the term rap is interchangeable with hip-hop needs to get the fuck out of this thread. It might be to 15 year old kids checking the billboard top 10, but to those who know, it's nothing near the same.

Talib is nowhere near underground for one. Plus the Talib piece you pasted has just one simile and a few other poor attempts at creating similes. You can't have a simile comparing something to an adjective. He might want to master the english language before he tries to be too creative.

Common is just plain garbage. He raps off beat more often than not, he doesn't have consistent flow for any song really.

You're laughable if you find those quotes to be riddled with impressive similes and metaphors.

While I respect all cats views man, personally I don't see much in rap that is worth my time. There are a few good Pac an' Jay-z songs I enjoy but I'm in music for lyrics and the sound, the lyrics of most rap songs are too uhh whats the words I'm looking for? Guess we'll go with gangster for my taste.

    You, sir, are an idiot.

It was just a taste of Common and Talib. Common, if you want to argue it, has some massive metaphor and simile value. Maybe you are too dim witted to get with it. You sound like a fuckin hiphop snob, and that aint appreciated.

I never said that they were underground, I said they were not mainstream. And since when does their popularity have anything to do with their musical talent? (And don't go off saying all popular artists out right now = no talent. That is simply coincidence because a lot of people like shitty music)

Take a step down from your high pedestal, at least buy a glass stomach so you can see your way around with your head up your ass.

Common? Garbage? Do you have lead eardrums? I am going to disregard your musical opinion from now on.

If Common is garbage, enlighten me with an artist that hits heavy and has a true passion for the HipHop game.

Well...ironically much of rap is influenced by gangs and street violence because a lot of artists grew up in rough parts. But there is also so much more than that stuff.

Talib is amazing. Common (regardless of what the douche up there has to say) is amazing.

And if you really want clever lyrics and interesting topics go with Lupe Fiasco. His flow does not disappoint. I believe he is the next age of hip-hop, no denying it. Jay-Z said he is excited to see what Lupe makes of the genre.

the list of mainstream rap albums could go on for years before a lil' wayne, let a lone, cash money album were to be on it...

And you're the one who cannot read? I did not mention the word popularity in that argument. Not one time.

Common is far from an intellect.

Talib Kwali I can admit is a skilled MC, but Common can go suck dick with Can-a-bitch.
