dog chases asshole cat under the bed. there is a hiss, and a yelp, and a vet visit. scratched her eyeball, vet said we give it 5-7 days on medication, it should get better. if it doesnt she will probably need surgery.

and im wondering how many ways there are to skin a cat. i dont even like the fucker. MY cat and dog get along.

so heres hoping her eye heals, with minimal scarring. i gotta go to bed. what a freaking day.

I had a nice day today, even if I did have to spend $500 to get Carly the Crown not to squeak.

The mechanic called me when she was up on the lift to let me know the verdict...that it was all 4 ball joints...he had thought it would just be 2. Plus something like sway bar linkage is written on the bill...he also said something like that. Then it was aligned. I said do whatever you need to do. Anyway, she drove like a dream and NO SQUEAK.

At the other place, where my tires weren't all that important ;) , they never would ever call me and tell me jackcrap before doing the work...even though I would ask them to - if for no other reason than to find out how dang long it would take.

To be fair... at one point that "mess" was all new and the upper portion and trim is all redwood... Time and the elements made it look the way it did. From an architectural aspect it doesn't make sense to push that out to the edge of the roof like that but the original owner was a lawyer... not an architect.

I'm not an architect either... I just play one on the internet.

Iit's possible. I wouldn't spend any money on struts or sway bars unless they cause driving problems, or unless you're into performance or really pushing your car - in which case, I'd sort of expect you to be diagnosing and fixing that sort of thing anyway.

You could get away with letting both of those go for the life of the car, as long as you haven't hit anything and nothing is hanging down.

    What did they quote you?

They're not causing me any driving issues that I can tell, just a creaking noise while braking at low speeds and while coming to a stop. It does not affect my ability to brake (brakes brand new anyway, less than 2,000 miles) and there's nothing hanging down. I haven't hit anything either.

They quoted me at $650. It's a 1995 hyundai accent that I bought on craigslist for $900 (so cheap because its a manual). They're fucking nuts if I'm gonna practically buy my car again. The guy even tried to talk me into it by telling me my struts will fail and my car will 'break and nosedive' and I'll get hurt.. which I highly doubt. Probably just telling me that because I'm a female who walked into a mechanic alone, lol.

slow speed creaking when braking (especially at drive thru type situations) is almost always caused by loose calipers (worn mounting pins/bushings)...not really a safety issue

i would only suspect strut bearings if it happens during slow speed turns and also includes a "spring twang" type sound (from spring twist binding then letting go due to bad bearing)

After a long time off of competitive hockey, I'm officially playing semi-pro hockey. Funny shit, especially at 30.

I kind of suspected the caliper at first because upon a brake inspection when I had the brakes installed, they said one was wearing out but that it's not really a safety issue. And yeah, no creaking when turning and I can't replicate it when pushing on my car. Only when braking at slow speeds.

Lynn, belated birthday wishes!! I may be late but I am in earnest!! :)

Ty, what a change in the appearance of your door. The white also makes it look far more inviting! It is going to be beautiful and well as practical. I can't wait to see the glass and all installed! No wonder you are tired, that is a lot of work. I really like that it is more of a restore rather than a modern redo. Nice. :)

ML, hope the dog is doing better and the cat had an extra life. Vet bills are no fun.

Sitka, cool! Hockey is not only fun but good exercise.

I spent the day doing errands. Glad to be home and kick back. Not sure if it is the weather, lack of sunshine or what but people in the stores were really grumpy. The woman ahead of me in the line at the grocery store was so nasty to the cashier it was maddening to hear. The cashier kept her cool but would have been justified in not doing so.
