Yes I have been to the middle east, I served in the U.S. Navy as a Corpsman, attached to a Marine unit, during the first Gulf War, and yes I was wounded and received a purple heart, so as far as i'm concerned the only good arab is a dead one. Yes you people can say what you want but if you truly want peace in the world we should turn the middle east into a parking lot. Oh let me guess musicboy19 you went over there on a tour for high school so you could better understand the world and let me guess (write a term paper) Don't talk to me about the middle east I was there for almost two years, you couldn't possibly have learned enough in your week long visit to hold any kind of opinion. And just so there is no question Yes I have killed Iraqis while in the service and would gladly do it again.
I like your assumptions. Actually, I've been to the Near East several times, and never on a high school trip. I took a trip to the middle east for the tour of Ernst Rohm and Karl Kurgets' battle grounds during world war II because I'm a world war II/ history buff. Beyond that, my uncle and his three sons are in the Israeli Defense Force, so I'm allowed to go to Israel, Syria and Lebanon for free (besides the plane ticket). I'm not some spoiled brat who experiences something once and believes he can make these statements I've made. I'm very well acquainted with most of the Near East and its people. I've never been to the far east, so I can't say that I have experience with the Iraqis, but Iraqis and Afghani Mujahideen soldiers are not the only Muslims on the planet. Saying you want to turn the middle-east into a parking lot, or that you'd need to for them to treat you with respect and not want you dead is disgusting. It's scary that someone at your age is stooping to such a level. If you believe what I'm saying is an insult to you, don't resort to an argument, just ignore it (although, I assure you it was not. I was merely telling you that until you've experienced all the Muslims, don't act as though they're all extremists who want your head). I respect the fact that you were in the Navy, but to say that a few tours in one specific area of the world puts you in a place to make statements about people in an area near that area on a whole is completely arrogant and to say that you'd gladly kill again is pretty fucked up. Why would you "gladly" kill anyone? Because one group of Arabs shot at you in a war, you're able to say that you'd like to see them all dead? You're a scary, scary middle-aged man. Please don't vote. Thank you, much!
Lets get one thing straight, it's not just one radical group of muslims it is the majority, I will agree that there are pepole in that part of world that are decent, just like there are a lot of jerks here, but again the majority of that part of the world would like nothing better than to see you dead. And as far as the whole middle east is concerned, I stick by what I said, turn it into a parking lot and the world would be a safer place, (including your Uncle, and cousins in Israel.
Quote: so as far as i'm concerned the only good arab is a dead one Some people would hear a statement like that and assume all Americans were like you, same thing in Iraq...we have our insane people, so do they. Sorry the army fucked you up so bad, I knew people who came back from that war with a much different outlook than you.
i think the number of insane people is much higher in that part of the world. Just look at a poll from around that area and the number who support osama bin laden.
It may be higher, but if a person makes a statement like I quoted above, they really aren't any better than a terrorist...they don't take an "arabic person as an individual, they just want them dead, just like a follower of Bin Laden would want any American or westerner dead. they deserve to fight each other with that type of attitude.
"Lets get one thing straight, it's not just one radical group of muslims it is the majority, I will agree that there are pepole in that part of world that are decent, just like there are a lot of jerks here, but again the majority of that part of the world would like nothing better than to see you dead." How can you "get that straight" when you've never been anywhere else in the middle-east? Saying the majority of the people in that part of the world would like nothing better than to see me dead is an uneducated statement that spawns from lack of experience. You can't make a statement like that having simply toured in the Navy. All of the Islamics I met were incredibly courteous and all they asked in return was the ability to practice their religion. None of them wanted to see the "capitalist pig" dead. They couldn't care less if we're capitalist, as long as we're not invading their land or bothering them too much. I really do think you need to get some more experience before you just blurt out unfounded statements like that.
Some people on this thread have obviously never heard of cultural diversity. There is no legitiment reason for being rascist towards ANY race and people of middle eastern decent are not an exception. They have a different culture than you and they have different religious beliefs than you, but in no way are a majority of the people over "mentally ill" and they for damn sure aren't blood thirsty American killers. Apparently some of the people over here in America however suffer from paranoia and a fetish for violence. Its disgusting to see someone post "All iraqis should be shot", I bet you'd be pretty pissed if someone said everyone of your nationality or religion should be shot. Think about that statement and all the poor iraqi children who know nothing about life yet that you want shot. That's twisted.
Yeah, the guy served our country in one manifestation or another, and that's admirable, but I don't see how a 2 year experience in Iraq makes someone an expert, or even well versed on the people of the rest of the Arab nations. There are 13 Arab nations. Iraq is merely one of those nations. The 2,500 miles from Iraq to Israel accounts for a huge cultural difference. It'd be like saying Christians in Honduras or Costa Rica are exactly like the Christians in America and Canada simply because they share relative proximity and similar religious practices. It's a total generalization and that kind of thing can get you into a lot of trouble. I'm sure Iraqis shot at the guy, but they were in a war for Christ's sake. "I'm pissed off at all Japanese men because they shot at me in world war II, while fighting in a war".
