Check your owners manual on how to reset it. With mine you have to turn the key to on and wait for the light to stop and then turn it to off position. Remove key and then insert it again right away. Mine started then.

i think in the description he mentions that it was more to prove how hot it could get, not to get a usable amount. but you can see how you might scale it up while keeping the primitive aspect. enough to make utensils maybe. enough to make a small bowl. its all a little bit at a time.

All the Rangers went home or went to their hiding spot. I am gonna take advantage and go out to the beach where I won't be able to see a God am thing. I just so happens to have a malt liquor drink in the trunk. Fuck this shit. I'm gonna make the best out of this being stranded bullshit.
Talked to the tow truck driver he said he will pick me up whenever I call him. See the problem is even if he tows me to the dealer...I will still have to wait for the dealership to open. So I told him I'm gonna have a beer walk on the beach and I will call him in the morning. Better on the beach than in a dealership parking lot.

finally home, sooooo i called the tow truck driver about 6 times between 6:30 to 7:45 no answer, if i got no answer at 8:00 i was gonna call the dealership again to get a new driver. so i am sitting in the car and people are starting to fill up the parking lot, it was a bit hot so i decide to put on the AC for a while. i put the key in the ignition and the alarm goes off. WTF i am in the car with the key!!! i unlock the doors put the key back in and the alarm stops, i figure what the fuck, no harm in turning the key....the mother fucker starts right up. i dont know what changed in those 8 hours but i decide to drive to the dealership just in case it was a one time thing. pull in their lot turn off the car, starts up and everything looks normal. turn it off again and start it up no problem again. i am just about to drive home and i think "let me make sure all the buttons are working" i get out and try to lock it using the key and there is nothing, cant open it cant remote start it cant set off the alarm. so i tell the service guy the whole story. he pops off the cover of the key and there is rust on the battery and the connector. tried a new battery and still nothing. he says it will run but i will need a new key , and then he says you think of it as just a key but really its a little computer. ( yeah but its a little computer that is going to get wet, you carry your keys in the rain all the time. that is a serious design flaw...or maybe they did it on purpose) so i stop to get a sub and when i start the car it hesitated for a second or two, now its got me nervous for the next time i need to start it. the closest place that makes those keys are an hour away and for some reason i dont know why my mother kept the key from the last time she borrowed the car and she is in nj. so now i cant lock the door unless i want the alarm to go off and risk another service theft deterrent problem.

Pens, I've honestly been following your car key story with interest. You are giving me the incentive to get a copy made for mine. Its not that sophisticated, but it has a whole "head" and has to be specially made, or so I've been told. I only have the one key but I do have 2 fobs that lock, unlock, fuel and trunk open.

I'm up bright and early, finished 3 loads of laundry and the 4th (and last) load is now in there. :hurray:

Just a few errands to run this aft and this week's required "work" (lol) is done.

I miss going out of this house to work...boy do I ever. :dizzy2: [IMG] :yikes:

Maybe you could have your mom courier the key. It will give you a back up even with having to have a new one made. :)

thinking about the post idea, main problem is sunday there would be no movement so it would be a day longer, and it would be expensive so that makes me lean towards just getting a spare made which i know will be expensive but i will always have an extra, then.

lynn, the way it was told to me was that i could find people to cut the key so that it will fit in the ignition and turn but it would not start because it needs that chip that is in the key. and only a dealership would be able to get the right chip. i guess anyone could theoretically make it with that chip but if they are that smart what are they doing messing around with car keys.

YES! That is exactly what I've been told. There is a chip in this sort of fat head that hooks up with the ignition...and bla bla dealership. exactly what I was told twice.

White Jones told me they'd do it and they've never got a single key right for me yet in trying them like for 4 or 5 cars. lol and that was without special dang chips. I just asked them out of curiosity.

a lot of places can make chip keys now that used to be dealer only ...you should call around to pep boys or whatever those types of places are near

I have a chip key system in the HHR... There is a maximum of two keys coded into the computer so two things. (not sure if yours would be similar, but it's something to ask about)

    1. It's dealer only to do the coding... (or someone that has the proper equipment)

    2. If there was a third key around somewhere (like the one your Mom has) it wouldn't ever work again after having a new one cut.

I am supposed replace my whole key when the battery dies. Around $200 just for a battery and of course you need the special dealer code for it to work. I've still never had to replace it but I found a way to open it up when it does at least. This same dealer also wants over $100 just to change oil. Rich businessmen will pay I guess thinking they have to.

i had a friend that worked with me in a grocery store, just a couple bucks more than minimum wage at the time. he was a trust fund baby, i think he only worked because his mom made him. he had a jaguar and used to get oil changes at the dealership for $300. that is how much we made in a week at the time.

i just read that but you dont realize the area i am in. there is an autozone less than a half hour away but they dont do them. the closest city is an hour away and where the dealership is. the population just isnt high enough for any run of the mill locksmith or auto store to justify purchasing the machine to make them.
