should honestly be two seperate states. Iv'e lived in Nor cal my whole life with the exception of one year where I actually lived in so cal. There's pro's and con's of both but i'm defintley a nor cal guy. The people are so different as you said. Both place are beatiful in there own way. I think people are easiar to talk to and not so stuck up on the average. Also the weed is way better in nor cal haha. So cal you gotta love the mexican food and ocean and nice weather.

Well, let's see... So Cal: Full of gang bangers, wannabe gang bangers and other miscreants.. Tons of surfer types, even though most of them have never even seen a surf board lol.

Nor Cal: TONS of stoners, tons of hippies, some of the best weed in the world, especially here in Mendocino county. So, other than some relatively minor gang problems and extremely corrupt and violent cops, Nor Cal is pretty awesome.

    :cheers2:

The common perception is that southern California is more conservative & less hip than the northern half of the state, and that San Francisco gave birth to the hippie culture, while L.A. wallows in superficiality and vanity. Truth be told, there were proto-hippies in L.A. during the 1940's, with shoulder length hair, beards and sandals, and the first hippie-type person to inhabit California was a German immigrant named Bill Pester who lived wild in the canyons above Palm Springs in the So Cal desert beginning in 1905:

The L.A. hippie scene emerged in 1965 around Laurel Canyon with groups like the Byrds, Love, Frank Zappa, The Doors, Mamas & Papas, The Monkees, Buffalo Springfield, etc. This 17 part article tells an incredible story of the L.A. hippie generation in the 60's:

As for the present times, honestly it seems the whole state is a cultural wasteland, with conspiracy theorists, pretentious New-Agers, neo-conservatives, frustrated liberals, competition, greed and egotism on steroids.
The best people to hang out with in California these days are foreign travellers. They are happy to share time with you and visit cool places, and sincere about their opinions regarding this insulated media-addicted population. I've passed that bridge many times on Metrolink. Great graffitti, but the redwoods are much better.

Born and raised in Cali (L.A. area). With the exception of two years living in Moscow, Russia; I've lived all of my 43 years in California, both north and south and I love it all! I can say this though, NoCal obsesses much more about SoCal than SoCal obsesses about NoCal. We largely just don't care down here what out bretheren up north think about us; as long as we get our water, it's all good.

I've lived in SF for half a year, and I've lived in Encinitas (North SD county) now for about a year. Hmmm nice thing you can get great medication :afro: either way it's Cali. There are too many military bases in socal... navy n marines all around SD. SF is an open-minded place to live, however that city can be close-minded in it's own way as well. I live a mile from the tide I really don't care about the freeways I can walk to the water... like some were saying east of I-5 is scary JUST STAY THE FUCK OUTT OF BAKERSFIELD ALRIGHT FOLKS : )

i'm probably moving back to SF once I finish this dam degree ^_* yeah Balboa is no GG park

Northern California is much cooler, weather-wise. It is also more rural.

Southern California is warmer, drier, and life moves a little faster. The majority of the population is in Southern California.

Northern Californians generally don't like Sothern California. Perhaps it's because SoCal gets a lot of its water from NorCal. They don't like the traffic, and the fast pace, in general.

    thanks..

Southern California doesn't really get any water from Northern California. Look at a map of the aqueducts. Its all from the Central California or the Colorado River.

The cool and super clean air of Norcal, where the traffic jams are at Starbucks, the lids are four fingers and everyday is a Cannaday.

People I'm Nothern California say "Hella" in almost every conversation they've ever had. Southern Californians talk shit about this fact, but us chill Norcalers don't care at all lol :)

I dont think anyone knows where the line that devides Northern from Southern Calif. There may not be one. It Seems that around Monterey , King City area of the San Joaquin Valley, that the geographic change takes Place. Go north from here and your into Northern California. Please feel free to correct me if Im off track.

There's also North coast , South Coast. So whats up with that?

The joke around here not so very far from the headwater of the Colorado River is "Flush twice, Los Angeles needs the water".
