Fauci has been contradicting Trump's claims right after he has said them and while standing right next to him.

Fauci made a remark that he is presenting the facts, not trying to soften them to make Trump's claims sound less ridiculous or more believable.

Trump's briefings have turned into campaign rallies as they have dragged on. It's a reflection of Trump's withdrawal symptoms due to a lack of his regular bigotry rallies.

Egger post #21376 - Trump has said publicly that he admires Putin, Xi, and Kim Jung Un for being such strong leaders. His comments of praise are recorded. You mentioned in one paragraph Trump's affinity for Putin. I agree. He sure doesn't hide it. He admires their "strong-handed" leadership style. Kind-of like his dream of running the country like his "you're fired" apprentice show. He loves absolute control of everything and everybody.

But his view / attitude doesn't fit with our U.S. Constitution. The founders set up our democracy with 3 equal branches as checks and balances so no one branch could acquire the same autocratic, singular power that the founders were leaving in England. His words AND his actions attest to his true desires as far as his view of the Presidency. No one can praise Putin, Xi, and Kim (all communist dictators) and admire their leadership styles and be a defender and protector of the U.S. Constitution. Those styles of leadership are polar opposites to our democracy.

Just imagine what the "Trump lemmings" would be saying if a Dem. or an Ind. was saying and doing the same things as Trump. They lost their minds when Obama signed a couple executive orders and called him a dictator and a tyrant because he was by-passing Congress. Trump has blown Obama out of the water when it comes to executive orders. So ………….. why no outcry of "dictator" or "tyrant" now with Trump??? Because they are HYPOCRITES - that's why. X still = X. No one can say, your guy did "X" so he's a dictator & a tyrant ...……… but when my guy does "X", it's OK ………….. and be seen as credible. Only idiots fall for that $h*t.

That will be Trump's next campaign meme, making China pay the U.S. a few trillion dollars for Trump's botched response to a virus, if he is reelected.

The U.S. national debt is about $22 trillion and will grow by another couple trillion due to the virus.

Trump hasn't stopped the U.S. trade deficit with China using tariffs which was over $400 billion in 2018. It has grown under Trump.

The U.S. consumers are paying for the tariffs, in spite of Trump continually lying that China is paying them.

Trump couldn't get Mexico to pay for his $25 billion wall that didn't protect against the virus. He couldn't even convince Republicans in Congress to pay for it with U.S. taxpayer money after trying to coerce them with a Trump-initiated government shutdown.

Trump has been a loser on all of these issues.

The U.S. trade deficit with China decreased 17% in 2019 but at the expense of damaging business relations between China and the U.S. and a slower economic growth in the U.S.

It calls into question the usefulness of Trump's trade war tactics to try to reduce trade deficits in the broader view of the health of the overall economy.

A recession in the U.S. would likely reduce the U.S. deficit with China and the rest of the world like it has in the past because U.S. consumers have less money to spend on elective merchandise such as consumer electronics, much of which comes from overseas sources such as China.

U.S. trade deficit narrows in 2019 for first time in six years

    excerpt:

"WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. trade deficit fell for the first time in six years in 2019 as the White House’s trade war with China curbed the import bill, keeping the economy on a moderate growth path despite a slowdown in consumer spending and weak business investment.

The report from the Commerce Department on Wednesday also showed the Trump administration’s “America First” agenda decreased the flow of goods last year, with exports posting their first decline since 2016. President Donald Trump, who has dubbed himself “the tariff man,” has pledged to shrink the deficit by shutting out more unfairly traded imports and renegotiating free trade agreements.

Trump has argued that substantially cutting the trade deficit would boost annual economic growth to 3% on a sustainable basis. The economy has, however, failed to hit that mark, growing 2.3% in 2019, which was the slowest in three years, after expanding 2.9% in 2018.

With tensions in the 19-month U.S.-China trade war easing, last year’s narrowing in the deficit is unlikely to be repeated.

“Since that entire drop came from the huge change in the China deficit, don’t expect further declines in the years to come,” said Joel Naroff, chief economist at Naroff Economic Advisors in Holland, Pennsylvania.

The trade deficit dropped 1.7% to $616.8 billion last year, declining for the first time since 2013. That represented 2.9% of GDP, down from 3.0% in 2018. "

U.S. trade deficit narrows in 2019 for first time in six years

    excerpt:

"The White House has also sparred with other trading partners, including the European Union, Brazil and Argentina, accusing them of devaluing their currencies at the expense of U.S. manufacturers. But those efforts did little to rein in the goods trade deficit with the EU, which reached an all-time high of $177.9 billion. The deficit with Mexico jumped to a record high of $101.8 billion."

As Trump himself might say (but hasn't), the cure for the trade deficit shouldn't cause more damage than the problem itself.

Trump has yet to describe in a meaningful and convincing way why he believes the trade deficit to be so damaging to the U.S. and why a worldwide trade war should be the preferred modality for trying to reduce it.

Trump has stated his mistaken perception that reducing the trade deficit will reduce the U.S. national debt. That claim can't be used in support of reducing the trade deifict.

Most of his claims to date revolve around his personal psychological perception that the U.S. is being taken advantage of by foreigners. It's a claim of his that dates back to 1987 when he took out two full page national newpaper ads about Japan and Saudi Arabia which at that time he accused of taking advantage of the U.S. The opposite could be argued considering the very low labor costs of foreign sources that the U.S. has enjoyed, including Trump himself and his daughter with their clothing import businesses.

So far, I haven't read about any Muslims being so charged, but I suppose it could happen. U.S. Deputy Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen sent out a memo last Tuesday warning that "such acts potentially could implicate the Nation's terrorism-related statutes.."
