    So what

I had an inheritance at one point in my life. It was tied up in mutual funds. And at one point I saw a high rate of return due to a robust economy

And then one day I lost almost all of it. Literally, in one day when the economy tanked in 2008

A stable economy with steady growth is better than the high growth we're seeing now

The bubble will pop and when it does I'll likely lose what i've gained in my 401k and then some

Russian chess champion and political activist Garry Kasparov has a chilling warning for Americans: While you’re distracted by the bully in the White House, democratic institutions are being ripped apart.

Kasparov said he sees some of the same tactics he witnessed in Russia being used in the U.S., like a leader “lying constantly while attacking targets for lying” and the “escalation of rhetoric to dictatorial extremes.”

Former chess world champion Garry Kasparov said he’s concerned that Americans are allowing Trump to turn the U.S. into Russia.
Democratic government is “based on institutions,” Kasparov wrote in a Twitter thread on Sunday. “If someone is attacking those institutions instead of strengthening them, it’s time to pick a side. Rule of law or by strongman? Rule of institutions or of tribe? The history of making the wrong choice here is clear.”

Simple, American cities are no longer allowed to ban guns in city limits and the Republicans and NRA continue to flood our streets with ever more deadly combat style arms as they cut back on mental health aid. Meanwhile Trump and the Alt Right preach bigotry and hate .

So they're looking for aid elsewhere.

No shit, I was in my early 20s in 2008 and paid someone else to manage it and he did a good job. But literally, it disappeared in one day. Even savvy investors lost a lot of money when the recession hit

Hey Okie, The Republican tax wonder has a secret provision to give a big break to investors from other countries. These off shore investors make out better than four fifths of the American people. Go figure?

Never fiscally astute? GM was formed in 1908, for 100 years it was a giant in the stock market. I don't think that qualifies as never.

Perhaps I'm mistaken about this...but I have a suspicion that a very few people in this subject thread might be directly or indirectly involved in either the Media, or our Government.
I see a very large amount of knowledge and intricacies in opinion (sometimes, it almost appears to be "neo-bullying") on political topics. I'm truly not trying to start any trouble here with my comment, but it would be interesting to know who a few of you truly are :) . No I'm not calling anyone out, just speculating, based on the very strong dedication to the subjects so often discussed here. I am stunned, to say the least. That can be taken as a compliment. Just saying...

BTW...wishing all here and their families a very Merry Christmas.

This is the main reason I can't take the Republican party seriously. (I also don't take the Democratic party seriously, but for different reasons.) Low taxes are not a conservative principle, fiscal responsibility is! I'm just fine with low taxes but the federal budget needs to reflect that. No matter who is in control of Congress or The White House the budget increases every single year. And I blame the average voter for this; we want the government to do things it was never intended to do but we don't want to pay our fair share for it. So we'll vote Democrat to get 'the wealthy' to pay for it (and there's never enough of other people's money to pay for all the benefits we want) or Republican party so we get a tax cut (without a balanced budget.) It's insane.

GM showed a profit every year during the Great Depression. They didn't have problems until Reagan got into the White House and Toyota started making better cars and trucks.

“I spiked Hillary’s iced latte so that she coughed viciously and siezured out, forcing her to get thrown into a van like a slab of meat. After that, I phished Podesta, sexted Weiner so that I could order Wikileaks &the FBI to do my bidding. Oh yeah, and I also filmed all the Project Veritas videos”

The U.S. vetoed a U.N. Security Council resolution condemning the move of the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem. Even the staunch allies of the U.S. such as Great Britain have expressed disapproval of the move. The U.N. General Assembly will be convening a rare emergency special session to discuss the issue.

After U.S. veto, U.N. General Assembly to meet on Jerusalem status

    excerpt:

"Only 10 such sessions have been convened, and the last time the General Assembly met in such a session was in 2009 on occupied East Jerusalem and Palestinian territories. Thursday’s meeting will be a resumption of that session.

Trump abruptly reversed decades of U.S. policy this month when he recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, generating outrage from Palestinians and the Arab world and concern among Washington’s western allies. "

In general the U.S. has been alone in its unilateral decision to move its embassy to Jerusalem.

A more thoughtful and intelligent approach would have been to discuss such a move within the legal framework of various groups in the Mideast. Trump's embassy decision is similar to his first travel ban in that it was done without consultation with other government groups who have expertise in planning and implementing such a policy and in dealing with possible ramifications. Trump's rash method shows a disregard for the interests of other groups.

The reports that Duterte of the Philippines was considering moving the Philippine embassy to Jerusalem were apparently not true.

Philippines ‘will not move its embassy to Jerusalem’

    excerpt:

"Reports from Israel earlier this month claimed that President Rodrigo Duterte had sent a message that he intended to move the country’s embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. This was after US President Donald Trump publicly recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and announced plans to move the US Embassy there.

The reports claimed that, along with the Philippines, other were countries also planning to move their embassies to Jerusalem.

However, when asked to confirm reports about the alleged move of the Philippine embassy to Jerusalem, Bolivar reiterated the country’s support for a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict."
