Mayor Casey Urlacher, pardoned by Trump, wins another term in Illinois town

"METTAWA, Ill. - Voters in a small Illinois town reelected a mayor who ran a write-in campaign after President Donald Trump pardoned him in a gambling investigation.

Casey Urlacher, the brother of former Chicago Bears star Brian Urlacher, defeated Jess Ray in Tuesday’s election in Mettawa, 151-105, according to the Lake County clerk’s office.

"These residents really rallied for me. It was a team effort," Urlacher told the Lake County News-Sun. "There were a lot of people working behind the scenes. I’m honored to be elected for another four years."

Gaetz vows to fight, tries to stay on offensive amid scandal

"Gaetz is emulating the former president's approach and appealing to his most loyal supporters. The sponsor of Friday evening's event also organized the Jan. 6 “March for Trump” rally in Washington that ended with a mob storming the U.S. Capitol in a deadly insurrection.

Gaetz repeated baseless claims that the election was stolen from Trump and suggested for the cheering crowd that he was a “wanted man by the deep state."

To defend Trump, Gaetz illegally stormed a hearing in the U.S. House during Trump's first impeachment in a vein similar to Trump's siege on the U.S. Capitol. Gaetz was the grand poobah of the raid that delayed the testimony of a military official, similar to Trump's riot at the Capitol that delayed the electoral count certification.

Gaetz's office released a statement saying that he has always behaved with the utmost professionalism.
