'Back pain' didn't stop Proud Boy from threatening police with axe handle during Capitol riot, DOJ says Attorneys for William Chrestman say their client hasn't been able to get proper care while in the D.C. Jail. Author: Jordan Fischer, Eric Flack, Stephanie Wilson Published: 12:16 PM EDT June 11, 2021 Updated: 12:16 PM EDT June 11, 2021 DOJ: Back pain' didn't keep Proud Boy from Capitol riot | wusa9.com excerpt: "WASHINGTON — A Kansas Proud Boy charged in the Capitol riot has asked a judge to release him from jail due to chronic back pain – a condition, prosecutors say, which didn’t prevent him from allegedly wielding an axe handle against police outside the Capitol. William Chrestman, 47, was arrested in February along with four others connected to the Kansas City chapter of the Proud Boys. Photos from the Capitol riot appear to show Chrestman in tactical gear and a respirator and carrying a wooden axe handle. He faces multiple charges, including conspiracy, civil disorder and threatening to assault a federal law enforcement officer. A magistrate judge initially approved Chrestman’s pretrial release – but that decision was overturned by D.C. District Court Chief Judge Beryl A. Howell on February 23. Since then, the U.S. Army veteran has remained in custody in the D.C. Jail. Chrestman’s attorneys have tried a number of strategies to explain his alleged actions and secure his release, including blaming former President Donald Trump. In a filing in February, Chrestman’s lawyers said he believed he had an “official endorsement” from Trump to participate in the storming of the Capitol. “It is an astounding thing to imagine storming the United States Capitol with sticks and flags and bear spray, arrayed against armed and highly trained law enforcement. Only someone who thought they had an official endorsement would even attempt such a thing. And a Proud Boy who had been paying attention would very much believe he did,” they wrote."
Yes Trump incited the riot and should be held accountable. I doubt he will be but he should be. The word "should" can be awfully weak when applied to Trump. But those who took part in the riot, especially those who broke into the Capitol building, should be held accountable as well. Nobody made them do it. If you let yourself get conned into doing something stupid then both you and the con artist should suffer the consequences. And when the con leads to 30,000 gullible people committing a deadly atrocity the con artist should be in jail.

Trump-inspired death threats are terrorizing election workers By LINDA SO in ATLANTA Filed June 11, 2021, 11 a.m. GMT Trump-inspired death threats are terrorizing election workers excerpt: "Late on the night of April 24, the wife of Georgia’s top election official got a chilling text message: “You and your family will be killed very slowly.” A week earlier, Tricia Raffensperger, wife of Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, had received another anonymous text: “We plan for the death of you and your family every day.” That followed an April 5 text warning. A family member, the texter told her, was “going to have a very unfortunate incident.” Those messages, which have not been previously reported, illustrate the continuing barrage of threats and intimidation against election officials and their families months after former U.S. President Donald Trump’s November election defeat. While reports of threats against Georgia officials emerged in the heated weeks after the voting, Reuters interviews with more than a dozen election workers and top officials – and a review of disturbing texts, voicemails and emails that they and their families received – reveal the previously hidden breadth and severity of the menacing tactics."

Trump-inspired death threats are terrorizing election workers excerpt: "The Raffenspergers – Tricia, 65, and Brad, 66 – began receiving death threats almost immediately after Trump’s surprise loss in Georgia, long a Republican bastion. Tricia Raffensperger started taking precautions. She canceled regular weekly visits in her home with two grandchildren, ages 3 and 5 – the children of her eldest son, Brenton, who died from a drug overdose in 2018. “I couldn’t have them come to my house anymore,” she said. “You don’t know if these people are actually going to act on this stuff.” In late November, the family went into hiding for nearly a week after intruders broke into the home of the Raffenspergers’ widowed daughter-in-law, an incident the family believed was intended to intimidate them. That evening, people who identified themselves to police as Oath Keepers – a far-right militia group that has supported Trump’s bid to overturn the election – were found outside the Raffenspergers’ home, according to Tricia Raffensperger and two sources with direct knowledge of the family’s ordeal. Neither incident has been previously reported. “Brad and I didn’t feel like we could protect ourselves,” she said, explaining the decision to flee their home."
