Eastman is trying to defend himself. The Lawyer Behind Trump’s Infamous Jan. 6 Memo Has a Galling New Defense excerpt: "There are four fundamental problems with the memo from the standpoint of a lawyer’s professional responsibility to follow the rules of ethical conduct set forth by the state bar: First, it is egregiously bad lawyering, making inaccurate claims about the factual record and twisting the 12th Amendment and Electoral Count Act beyond reasonable interpretation based on inapt precedent and misconstrued citations. Second, it does not demonstrate independent legal judgment, as lawyers counseling clients are required to exercise, but rather presents a tendentious view designed to advance a predetermined end, which is prohibited. Lawyers counseling clients are required to explicitly tell them about the weaknesses and risks of proposed legal courses of action. They are not permitted to present unsupported options without judging their relative legal merits or spin facts and law when advising clients on how to act—yet that is precisely what Eastman’s memo did. Third, the memo counsels Eastman’s client, defeated President Donald Trump, on how to overthrow a legitimately elected President Joe Biden, effectively assisting his client to commit a public fraud in violation of core democratic rules protecting free and fair elections and the peaceful transition of power. And fourth, following the last point, it subverts the rule of law and administration of justice that Eastman, like all lawyers, is sworn to uphold."
Democrats still have enough votes in the House for passage which will include Cheney and Kinzinger. January 6 investigation: Republican leadership instructs members to vote 'no' on criminal contempt charge for Steve Bannon excerpt: "In a memo sent to each House Republican, however, House Minority Whip Rep. Steve Scalise of Louisiana claimed the special committee's investigation was invalid, arguing it lacked a legislative purpose. "Congress does not have enumerated constitutional powers to conduct investigations or issue subpoenas outside of that scope," he asserted. Legal experts, however, say Congress has broad authority to investigate under the US Constitution, particularly when it comes to the actions of past and present government officials. Bannon - who predicted a day before the insurrection that "all hell is going to break loose" - previously served as chief strategist at the White House under Trump."
A few days after the attempted coup, faculty, staff, and students of Chapman College requested that Eastman be terminated. He is still employed there.
It’s amazing! The American citizens are SO much better-off since President Trump has been out of office. Optimism is at an all-time high. (Yeah right)

Trump to launch new social media platform TRUTH Social excerpt: "Former US President Donald Trump has announced plans to launch a new social media network, called TRUTH Social. He said the platform would "stand up to the tyranny of big tech", accusing them of silencing opposing voices in the US. Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), which he chairs, also intends to launch a subscription video-on-demand service. Mr Trump was banned or suspended from social networks like Twitter and Facebook after crowds of his supporters stormed the US Capitol in January. He and his advisers have since hinted that they were planning to create a rival social media site. Earlier this year, he launched From the Desk of Donald J Trump, which was often referred to as a blog. The website was permanently shut down a month later. His senior aide Jason Miller said it was "just auxiliary to the broader efforts we have and are working on". An early version of his latest venture, TRUTH Social, will be open to invited guests next month, and will have a "nationwide rollout" within the first three months of 2022, according to a statement by TMTG."
Judge in Trump's Capitol riot case has doled out stiff penalties to Jan. 6 defendants excerpt: "Chutkan, nominated by then-President Barack Obama, has served as a D.C. federal judge since 2013. She joined the bench from Boies Schiller Flexner, where she was a partner and defended banking clients in class actions and also advocated for plaintiffs in antitrust class actions. She first joined the firm in 2002. Chutkan sentenced Russian agent Maria Butina to 18 months in prison in April 2019 for conspiring to infiltrate the National Rifle Association. In that case, Chutkan imposed the sentence the government had requested. On Thursday, Chutkan is scheduled to sentence another Capitol riot defendant, Troy Smocks, who pleaded guilty last month to making a Jan. 6-related threat on social media to harm law enforcement. A lawyer for Smocks has asked for a sentence of about nine months, as time already served incarcerated."
Army veteran says Trump betrayed his loyalty on January 6 | wusa9.com excerpt: "WASHINGTON — A nearly 30-year U.S. Army veteran said Wednesday he shouldn’t get jail time for his role in the Capitol riot – arguing he was “misled” by former President Donald Trump. In a memo filed ahead of his sentencing on October 29, Ret. Lt. Col. Leonard Gruppo, of Lubbock, Texas, said he regrets putting his trust in an “amoral and untruthful president.” “He wanted to support the President of the United States,” Gruppo’s attorney, Daniel R. Lindsey, wrote. “It was in his blood, in his training for 28 years in the military. After all, if you cannot trust your President, who can you trust?” In August, Gruppo pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building. He told investigators he and his long-time friend, Kenneth Kelly (who also pleaded guilty in September), traveled to D.C. on January 6 to hear Trump speak at the “Stop the Steal” rally and then traveled with other supporters of the former president to the U.S. Capitol after, Lindsey said, he heard Trump say he was going to join the crowd there. “Unfortunately, Mr. Gruppo believed these falsehoods,” Lindsey said."
Army veteran says Trump betrayed his loyalty on January 6 | wusa9.com excerpt: "Gruppo faces a maximum of six months behind bars on the parading charge, but last week the Department of Justice asked a judge to sentence him to 30 days in jail. Other Capitol riot defendants who’ve pleaded to the same charge as Gruppo have received a range of sentences. Anna Morgan-Lloyd, an Indiana grandmother who was the first defendant sentenced in the case, was given three years of probation. More recently, five defendants, including Air Force veteran Derek Jancart, were sentenced to 45 days in jail for the parading charge."
28 years in the military and he believed Trump's lies about the election and engaged in criminal behavior at the Capitol to support Trump. Army veteran says Trump betrayed his loyalty on January 6 | wusa9.com excerpt: “Instead of upholding his military oath to support and defend the Constitution, Gruppo disgraced himself and his country by participating in a riot that sought to undermine one of the most fundamental and cherished tenets of our democracy – the peaceful transition of power,” prosecutors wrote. “His 28 years of prior military service renders his participation in the riot more egregious.”
Stymied Before, Trump Finds Backing for His Own Media Venture excerpt: "Former President Donald J. Trump said on Wednesday that he had lined up the investment money to create his own publicly traded media company, an attempt to reinsert himself in the public conversation online from which he has largely been absent since Twitter and Facebook banned him after the Jan. 6 insurrection. If finalized, the deal could give the new Trump company access to nearly $300 million in spending money."
At least he now sees and admits he was taken for a ride. There are many who still don't see it. Ummm...we're talking about Trump. Let him serve his 30 days and then he should head a new anti-Trump organization. Something along the lines of the Vietnam Veterans Against the War. Call it Former Trump Supporters Against Trump. Maybe they can deprogram some of his worshippers.
A quarter of the damned population eats up Truther narratives, and this would be his opportunity to create his own Truther version of Twitter. Which is perfect for designing bots, that will encourage the idiots to kill themselves faster and reproduce less often, after sending Donald Duck all their money.
