Trump lamented that the vaccines were not approved quickly enough to boost his election chances despite Operation Warp Speed just before and shortly after his 2020 defeat to President Joe Biden. In April of this year, he suggested that the vaccines should be called the "Trumpcine" in a speech to his supporters at Mar-a-Lago in Florida."

"Former President Donald Trump addressed a crowd Saturday night in south Florida, telling folks that vaccinations for the COVID-19 pandemic should be called "Trumpcine" instead of the regular vaccination monikers.

The crowd listening to the former president gathered south of Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort at a place called Palm Beach's Four Seasons resort, which included about 360 pro-Trump supporters.

Trump called out Mitch McConnell, and also those who felt he didn't do enough to create a coronavirus vaccine, per a CNN associate.

"Trump said everyone should be calling it the "Trumpcine" (instead of vaccine) and deemed Mitch McConnell a "dumb son of a b*tch" during his RNC remarks at Mar-a-Lago tonight, per person in the room," said CNN's Kevin Liptak on Saturday night, per his tweet."

"This was on hideous display as Pence and a group of fellow Republicans visited an overcrowded migrant detention center in McAllen, Texas. With icy condescension, Pence didn’t bother making eye contact with men crammed so tightly into a fenced cage that there was no room for all of them to lie on the concrete floor that now serves as their bed. This was after weeks of Democratic legislators, human rights advocates, and even the Trump administration’s own Department of Homeland Security’s Office of the Inspector General decrying the deteriorating conditions for thousands suffering prolonged detention.

Pence, who describes himself as a “Christian, a conservative, and a Republican, in that order” showed no mercy for those locked flesh against flesh in cells meant to hold half as many people. The men chanted “no shower, no shower,” implying they had not been allowed to bathe for weeks; a reported stench seemed to prove their point. When one man said, “We are not terrorists. We are humans,” Pence ignored him. Clearly, Pence’s Christian compassion isn’t available to brown people from foreign countries locked in cages.

More than two years into this presidency, it’s absurd to ask why white evangelicals have remained this administration’s most loyal constituency. Those in doubt need only look at the vice president, whose selective faith is the cornerstone of his political life."

 

That was a minor discomfort compared with how migrants detained in Texas were treated. Trump and Pence ignored it.
