Ex-White House, DOJ officials urge Supreme Court to reject Trump effort to stymie Jan. 6 probe excerpt: "A group of former executive branch lawyers on Wednesday urged the Supreme Court to reject an effort by former President Trump to hamper the House committee investigation into the deadly Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. The group of legal heavyweights, comprising a half dozen former White House and top Justice Department lawyers who served under Republican presidents, argued in an amicus brief that Trump’s assertion of executive privilege over his administration’s records is outweighed by congressional investigators’ pursuit of the facts surrounding the Trump-inspired insurrection. “Congress is now investigating those events and determining how to prevent unsuccessful candidates from attempting to undermine our democracy in the future,” they wrote. “Amici believe that the documents at issue should be turned over given, among other things, the importance of the House investigation into the January 6th attack and the current president’s reasonable determination that executive privilege should not be asserted in this case.”"

It would then be up to federal prosecutors to decide whether to pursue a charge. “That dereliction of duty causes us real concern,” Thompson said. “And one of those concerns is that whether or not it was intentional, and whether or not that lack of attention for that longer period of time, would warrant a referral.” In the article, former federal prosecutor Randall D. Eliason warned that the committee’s focus on criminal referrals could also boost the claims of those resisting subpoenas that the lawmakers’ inquiry doesn’t have a legislative purpose, but rather, is meant to uncover crimes. The release of records to the committee has been hotly contested. After Biden said the committee was entitled to certain information it sought, Trump sued. But both a district judge and the appeals court disagreed with the former president."

OK secret agent 86 Police say man arrested in Iowa with weapons cache was on his way to DC with 'hit list' A California man was charged by the Justice Department for allegedly having a cache of weapons in his car, attempting to travel to Washington, D.C. and kill people in power. Kuachua Xiong, 25, was stopped by sheriff’s deputies in Iowa after weaving in and out of traffic, and allegedly told the sheriff he was recently fired from his job and headed to Washington, D.C. Police say he had a "hit list" including President Biden, Dr. Anthony Fauci and others. Inside the vehicle, Xiong allegedly had an AR-15 style rifle, loaded magazines, boxes of ammunition and several items of body armor and medical kits.
Court filing: California man, arrested in Iowa en route to "kill those in power" excerpt: "During that questioning, Xiong revealed he had been working at a grocery store as a cover until he was called upon by God to “combat evil demons in the White House." The special agent goes on to say Xiong believes "that he is the only person remaining who can free the United States of evil and it is necessary for him to kill those in positions of power." The special agent says Xiong told investigators that if he hadn't been pulled over, he would have continued on to Washington, D.C. to kill persons in power. They say Xiong was using Google Maps to route to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, the address for the White House. Investigators determined, Xiong wanted to kill politicians and public figures, including, but not limited to: Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, Dr. Anthony Fauci, and Mark Zuckerberg. They say Xiong also said he planned to kill President Joe Biden, unless Biden promised to comply with his demands. According to court filings, Xiong laid out his plain to get into the White House, giving investigators a drawing with what he identified as a "weak spot." They say, he planned to use a grappling hook to climb the perimeter fence before getting in to the White House to kill those on his "hit list.""
'Slow-motion insurrection': How GOP seizes election power | AP News excerpt: "In battleground states and beyond, Republicans are taking hold of the once-overlooked machinery of elections. While the effort is incomplete and uneven, outside experts on democracy and Democrats are sounding alarms, warning that the United States is witnessing a “slow-motion insurrection” with a better chance of success than Trump’s failed power grab last year. They point to a mounting list of evidence: Several candidates who deny Trump’s loss are running for offices that could have a key role in the election of the next president in 2024. In Michigan, the Republican Party is restocking members of obscure local boards that could block approval of an election. In Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, the GOP-controlled legislatures are backing open-ended “reviews” of the 2020 election, modeled on a deeply flawed look-back in Arizona. The efforts are poised to fuel disinformation and anger about the 2020 results for years to come. All this comes as the Republican Party has become more aligned behind Trump, who has made denial of the 2020 results a litmus test for his support. Trump has praised the Jan. 6 rioters and backed primaries aimed at purging lawmakers who have crossed him. Sixteen GOP governors have signed laws making it more difficult to vote. An Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll showed that two-thirds of Republicans do not believe Democrat Joe Biden was legitimately elected as president. The result, experts say, is that another baseless challenge to an election has become more likely, not less. “It’s not clear that the Republican Party is willing to accept defeat anymore,” said Steven Levitsky, a Harvard political scientist and co-author of the book “How Democracies Die.” “The party itself has become an anti-democratic force.”"
'Slow-motion insurrection': How GOP seizes election power | AP News excerpt: "Republicans are also remaking the way elections are run in other states. In Georgia, an election bill signed this year by the GOP governor gave the Republican-controlled General Assembly new powers over the state board of elections, which controls its local counterparts. The law is being used to launch a review of operations in solidly-Democratic Fulton County, home to most of Atlanta, which could lead to a state takeover. The legislature also passed measures allowing local officials to remove Democrats from election boards in six other counties. In Pennsylvania, the GOP-controlled legislature is undertaking a review of the presidential election, subpoenaing voter information that Democrats contend is an unprecedented intrusion into voter privacy. Meanwhile, Trump supporters are signing up for local election jobs in droves. One pastor who attended the Jan. 6 rally in the nation’s capital recently won a race to become an election judge overseeing voting in a rural part of Lancaster County. In Michigan, the GOP has focused on the state’s county boards of canvassers. The little-known committees’ power was briefly in the spotlight in November of 2020, when Trump urged the two Republican members of the board overseeing Wayne County, home to Democratic-bastion Detroit, to vote to block certification of the election. After one of the Republican members defied Trump, local Republicans replaced her with Robert Boyd, who told The Detroit Free Press that he would not have certified Biden’s win last year. Boyd did not return a call for comment."
That was Hartmann and Palmer who tried to rescind their votes to certify Biden's win. Hartmann died of COVID in November 2021.
Trump supporters who stormed the Capitol left three unsolved mysteries one year later: report excerpt: ""Who planted two pipe bombs the night before the insurrection? Who set up gallows and a noose outside the Capitol? And whose idea, if anyone’s, was it to breach police lines and try to hunt down legislators?" writes MacFarlane, who's spent 2021 closely covering Captiol riot court cases."

DC jail terminates Capitol rioter’s interview with Newsmax live on air excerpt: "Ms Childers asked: “No doubt, you’re going to probably face some repercussions for even doing this interview with us today, are you a little worried about that?” “Fear does not live in the hearts of patriots,” Mr Lang replied. He continued: “And, you know, it’s time for the American people to band together and to stand behind the Constitution and to really support the January sixers because we were the frontline…” An automated message then announced: “This call is being terminated by the facility.” “Uh oh,” said Ms Childers after a short silence. “Someone didn’t like that conversation,” she added. Mr Lang faces 13 counts relating to the 6 January attack on the Capitol. A judge has ruled against any pretrial release."
Alex Jones threatens to ‘dish all the dirt’ on Trump for support of vaccines excerpt: "Right-wing conspiracy theorist and radio host Alex Jones is threatening to “dish all the dirt” on Donald Trump because of the former president’s support for Covid-19 vaccines. Mr Jones told his listeners it was time to “move on” from Mr Trump and that any impression that he was “playing 4D chess” was wrong and that he was not going to save them. On his Wednesday afternoon show on InfoWars, he said: “Yeah, we all wish Trump would do the right thing, but listen, I’ve got the inside baseball on Trump. He doesn’t know what’s going on, and I’m not even defending Trump, I’m just saying we’ve got to move on.” “In fact — you know what — maybe to get Trump’s attention, ‘cause I don’t even get this from Roger Stone, I get this from people directly in Trump’s camp,” he continued. “Maybe I should just dish all the dirt — you know what, you know what — I am going to dish it all on Trump next hour."”
It's the tactic of consolidation of power that dictators have employed throughout history. Trump's hero, Putin, has used it and has been in power since 2000. The manipulation of election-related offices is not as apparent as a violent incident like Trump's siege at the Capitol, although the insurrection gave an impetus for GOP state legislators to use subversive tactics under the guise of 'election integrity'.
It remains to be seen what the public response will be in the future when GOP election-related officials steal legitimate votes away from Democrats and overturn elections, such as the almost-successful incident with Hartmann (now deceased of COVID) and Palmer who tried to rescind their certification of the Detroit area votes and Biden's win in the 2020 election cycle at the direction of Trump. The reaction of the general public may be fierce when legitimate votes are stolen. It was fierce for the perceived votes 'stolen' from Trump in the minds of his followers, and those weren't even legitimate votes but rather ones Trump fabricated, such as fake ballots for Biden smuggled on food trucks (claim by MI star 'witness' Melissa Carone) and in suitcases under the table at the ballot counting centers (truther narratives accusing Ruby Freeman whose name Trump mentioned 18 times during his phone call to Raffensperger of GA). The GOP's potential overturning of elections can be applied to local and state elections as well as presidential elections.
Those subversive approaches are traits of Trump that he has used for decades in his real estate dealings: circumvent the legal system and force others to do try to do something about it, which can be lengthy and expensive. This time it's state and federal governments trying to hold him responsible, similar to how Palm Beach tried to hold him responsible for his disruptive antics in the city decades ago when he wasn't even a permanent resident of FL. He's now a permanent resident of FL and his tactics are being used by the GOP in local, state, and federal governments.
