75% of Russians don't realize that if one side fires it's 22 minutes before most of the planet goes "poof"... apparently.
Greene blows up at reporter. Marjorie Taylor Greene Blows Up At Reporter Challenging Her On Putin, Ukraine excerpt: "Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) erupted at a reporter on Friday who questioned her on her apparent support for Russian President Vladimir Putin and her attacks on Ukraine. “You can just stop,” she snapped at Axios reporter Andrew Solender when he asked if her comments and actions “represent a sympathy for Russia and the Kremlin” in its invasion of Ukraine. “I don’t have any sympathy for Putin and Russia,” Greene insisted. “So you can take your pro-Putin garbage and can take it somewhere else.” She also called the Russian leader “murderous.”":
Analysis | A layer cake of misinformation, dishonesty and pro-Russia apologism By Philip Bump, National correspondent March 17, 2022 at 10:21 a.m. EDT https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...sinformation-dishonesty-pro-russia-apologism/ excerpt: “We’re told that we have an urgent moral responsibility to send money and munitions to a country 6,000 miles away,” Greene continues, emphasizing that dramatic distance, “a country that just coincidentally Joe Biden has business interest in, as do many other people.” (Ukraine is actually only about 4,000 miles from the United States. For reference, the distance from the northwestern part of Alaska to the tip of Florida is about 4,500 miles.) Obviously lots of people have business interests in Ukraine, since it’s a country. I’m not sure why Greene claims Biden has business interests there, nor why she later claimed that “Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi and Mitt Romney” had “direct financial interest” there. It’s probably because Greene applies no discernment to random Internet rumors like the one that circulated in 2019 as part of the broad effort to defend Donald Trump against having withheld aid from Ukraine. Biden’s son used to be on the board of a company in Ukraine, yes, but that’s not the president, anyway. But also: What’s the argument here? That we’re sending weapons to Ukraine not to help repel the invasion of a sovereign nation but because … Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) is eager to protect some small fraction of his wealth? Seems like that might be a more complicated theory than is warranted.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...sinformation-dishonesty-pro-russia-apologism/ excerpt: "That claim about the government “only existing” because of the State Department, though, is precisely the propaganda that Russia has promoted. In 2014, a series of protests over a Russia-friendly president in Ukraine led to the government’s collapse. Russia has blamed the United States for inciting those protests. In reality, they were triggered in large part by the sitting president (elected with the assistance of Paul Manafort) rejecting a free-trade agreement with the European Union — something fervently opposed by Russia. That’s a central theme in the moment, of course: Russia invaded Ukraine in part out of concern that the country had moved irrevocably out of its orbit of influence. What’s particularly noteworthy about Greene’s speech is how it fuses all of these various things together. False claims, debunked nonsense, echoes of Russian propaganda — all merged into an address to the Fringe States of America from its president. This is a conversation we cannot pretend doesn’t exist and has no influence."
GOP torn as Greene speaks to far right amid 'Putin!' chants excerpt: "WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican leaders in Congress are torn over what to do with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene after the congresswoman spoke at a weekend event organized by a white nationalist who marveled over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as the crowd erupted in chants of “Putin!” House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy called the congresswoman’s speech on the same stage “unacceptable.” Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell said “there’s no place in the Republican Party for white supremacists.” Yet it’s unclear whether Greene will face any further reprimand or rebuke for what is now an ongoing pattern of startling behavior. McCarthy had previously suggested the Georgia congresswoman, who is now barred by Democrats from committees, would enjoy a promotion if Republicans take control of the House. It all shows the difficulty Republican leaders have combating the party’s drift toward Trump-style authoritarianism and embracing right-wing extremism."
Turning outrage into power: How far right is changing GOP excerpt: "WASHINGTON (AP) — House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy appears to have settled on a strategy to deal with a handful of Republican lawmakers who have stirred outrage with violent, racist and sometimes Islamophobic comments. If you can’t police them, promote them. The path to power for Republicans in Congress is now rooted in the capacity to generate outrage. The alarming language, and the fundraising haul it increasingly produces, is another example of how Donald Trump, the former president, has left his mark on politics, changing the way Republicans rise to influence and authority. Success in Congress, once measured by bills passed and constituents reached, is now gauged in many ways by the ability to attract attention, even if it is negative as the GOP looks to reclaim a House majority next year by firing up Trump’s most ardent supporters. That has helped elevate a group of far-right lawmakers — including Reps. Lauren Boebert of Colorado, Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia and Paul Gosar of Arizona — whose inflammatory comments once would have made them pariahs."
Those on the right who loudly praised Putin have now fallen strangely silent | Nick Cohen excerpt: "They happily overlooked the levelling of Grozny, the war crimes in Aleppo, the missile attacks on civilian flights, the invasion of Crimea, the destructions of Russian democracy, the endemic corruption, the endless lying, and the poisoning of Alexander Litvinenko, Sergei and Yulia Skripal and Alexei Navalny. Only now they realise that the Kremlin may not be a reputable business partner after all."
When a journalist mentioned some of those types of action by Russia to Trump, he responded by saying that the U.S. isn't innocent either.
When Putin was asked by an U.S. journalist from NBC about all of the disappearing dissenters, Putin gave a nebulous answer that they disappeared due to various causes in various countries. He didn't speak out against it.
Jim Jordan has said he can't remember if he spoke with Trump for ten minutes on the morning of Jan. 6, 2021. Jim Jordan "trying to hide" something on 1/6 Trump call, suggests McGovern excerpt: "Representative Jim McGovern, a Massachusetts Democrat, has suggested that Representative Jim Jordan, an Ohio Republican, may be "trying to hide" something after a report this week revealed phone records show that the GOP congressman spoke with former President Donald Trump for about 10 minutes on the morning of January 6, 2021. Jordan, a staunchly pro-Trump lawmaker, has said publicly that he spoke with Trump on the day of the 2021 attack targeting the U.S. Capitol. However, he previously said that he believed those conversations occurred after the attack was in progress, and also said he couldn't remember exactly when he spoke with the then president. CNN first reported on Friday that phone records show the Ohio Republican actually spoke with Trump for approximately 10 minutes on the morning of January 6, 2021—before the pro-Trump riot took place at the federal legislative building. After the news broke, Jordan critics quickly questioned how he could have forgotten a call of that length with the president. ".@Jim_Jordan, this report directly contradicts what you said before the Rules Committee. What are you trying to hide? It's past time for you to go before the @January6thCmte and speak honestly about what happened that awful day," McGovern tweeted on Friday afternoon."
McGovern is a U.S. Representative from MA. He could be seen with others in the Speaker's Lobby through the windows of the barricaded doors that Trump's rioters were trying to kick in just before Ashli Babbitt was shot when she tried to climb through a window. The Capitol police were trying to rescue the rest of the people from the House chamber before Trump's rioters at the lobby doors could approach them.
Ukraine war: Western agents seek to get inside Putin's head excerpt: "Mr Putin, intelligence officials say, is isolated in a bubble of his own making, which very little outside information penetrates, particularly any which might challenge what he thinks. "He is a victim of his own propaganda in the sense that he only listens to a certain number of people and blocks out everything else. This gives him a strange view of the world," says Adrian Furnham, a professor of psychology and co-author of a forthcoming book The Psychology of Spies and Spying. The risk is what is called "group think" in which everyone reinforces his view. "If he's a victim of group think we need to know who the group is," says Prof Furnham. The circle of those Mr Putin talks to has never been large but when it came to the decision to invade Ukraine, it had narrowed to just a handful of people, Western intelligence officials believe, all of those "true believers" who share Mr Putin's mindset and obsessions."
Putin's desire to bring back Soviet Union, advanced age driving invasion, Ukraine caucus co-chair says excerpt: "Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick said Russian President Vladimir Putin's appetite to reconstitute the former Soviet Union and his advanced age are two significant factors in his invasion of Ukraine. "Two things about Vladimir Putin: He's got a significant appetite for risk when it comes to Ukraine," the Pennsylvania Republican and Congressional Ukrainian Caucus co-chair told Fox News. "He's identified three capitals of Christianity in the world: Rome, Jerusalem and Kyiv." "If you want to get inside of his mind, this is almost like a West Bank situation for him," he continued. "This is sacred holy ground to him, and it's the first step in reconstituting the former Soviet Union.""
Some refer to it as 'legacy mania'. Putin's desire to bring back Soviet Union, advanced age driving invasion, Ukraine caucus co-chair says excerpt: "Fitzpatrick pointed to Putin's advanced age and desire to cement himself in Russian history books as a second driving factor in the Ukraine invasion. "Vladimir Putin is about to turn 70 years old, and he's up for re-election in 2024," he said. "He has what I call ‘legacy mania.’ He's now focused on how he's going to be written in the history books that future Russian children read." "It's our job to make sure when the history books are written that Vladimir Putin was, in fact, the dumbest leader they've ever had," Fitzpatrick added. Fitzpatrick and a bipartisan coalition of lawmakers on the House Foreign Affairs Committee went to the Poland border Friday to get as close to the Russia-Ukraine war as possible. The delegation hoped to see firsthand what is needed to help the Ukrainian people."
Tucker Carlson is totally confused about many things, not just what he said near the end of the video about being confused about why the .U.S. should support Ukraine instead of Putin.
Tucker Carlson's voice goes high-pitched when he becomes emotional and confused, and he slurs his words together and talks quickly. Also, his face goes contorted. Tucker Carlson: "Why would we take Ukraine's side? Why aren't we on Russia's side? I'm totally confused." image:
