The pathetic state of the GOP. House GOP feud reignites as Johnson caught between warring wings excerpt: "And just hours earlier, a House GOP meeting on Capitol Hill turned into a circus when Hunter Biden made a surprise and dramatic appearance in front of the House Oversight Committee, which was in the process of marking up a resolution to hold him in contempt of Congress for defying a congressional subpoena. As the president’s son sat in the audience, the proceedings devolved into a shouting match, with GOP Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina calling for the president’s son to be arrested and telling him, “You have no balls,” while GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia displayed censored nude photos appearing to show Hunter Biden with women."

DeSantis has been quiet about all the GOP voter fraud found in his favorite stumping places. More voter fraud in the Villages. What else is new? A lot. By Scott Maxwell Orlando Sentinel January 10, 2024 More voter fraud in the Villages. What else is new? A lot. | Commentary excerpt: "Now, you might not be aware of that, since Gov. Ron DeSantis — who vowed to crack down on election fraud — has been noticeably quiet about all the arrests in this community where he likes to hold fundraisers and rallies."
More voter fraud in the Villages. What else is new? A lot. | Commentary excerpt: "Except there was also this line from the Orlando Sentinel’s story last fall about Rivernider’s arrest: “Rivernider also faced scrutiny for an Oct. 31 absentee ballot officials say he cast in the 2022 election, despite being a felon who owes restitution. But in a Dec. 9 memo, the state attorney’s office concluded ‘the state cannot prove … beyond a reasonable doubt’ that Rivernider knowingly cast the absentee ballot illegally.’ ” That is precisely what DeSantis and other Republicans have said should be mercilessly probed by their new election-crimes unit … when dark-skinned people in Democratic areas do it, anyway. When it’s a White Republican in The Villages, they apparently issue the prosecutorial equivalent of a shrug emoji. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯"
Trump claims he was performing his presidential duty to make sure the 2020 election was done fairly. But he wasn't calling up officials in rural and other areas to look for election fraud that favored him. Various examples of GOP election fraud have been found where people voted twice for Trump. The Villages in Florida is a prima example of Republicans cheating on elections.
The fact that Lake has trouble controlling what comes out of her mouth doesn't mean that she can't be held liable for it. Lake loses in court again. Kari Lake is in deep defamation doo doo after Court of Appeals ruling excerpt: "Rack up yet another loss for Kari Lake. This time, it’s the Arizona Court of Appeals, which on Wednesday declined Lake’s plea that she shouldn’t be held accountable for what comes out of her mouth."
Trump has already said publicly that if he isn't granted immunity he will try to prosecute Biden if he (Trump) is re-elected. In federal court on Tuesday, his attorneys said that they think lack of immunity has a crippling affect on a president. They essentially used Trump's threat to indict Biden as a reason for why Trump or any president should have immunity. Such immunity would give Trump the ability to try to indict his perceived enemies with impunity.
Or, as one of the federal appeals court judge said at the hearing, allow someone like Trump to assassinate people without criminal prosecution. Trump's attorneys argued that impeaching in the Congress would be the remedy. It would be the only remedy if Trump is granted the type of immunity he wants.
The GOP is facing the reality of the problems that are caused by putting Trumpist people in leadership positions. At the state level, GOP party leaders Karamo and Ziegler have been ousted. Karamo says she is refusing to leave. Ziegler is involved in what appears to be a threesome arrangement and possible rape allegations. Trump's people are mouthy characters whose rhetoric sounds tantalizing at first, but they don't know how to run their own lives and their offices. At the federal level, the GOP ousted George Santos before his trial or plea bargain could even happen. Only a few people have been ousted from Congress in U.S. history, and it's even more rare that it happens before a trial can occur for the person who was ousted.
I just found this amusing. The Judge not being swayed or intimidated by Trump's rambling. JUDGE: "Control your Client."
Trump rails at his NYC fraud trial, Judge Engoron cuts him off: 'Control your client' excerpt: “When you say don’t go outside of these things, we have a situation where I’m an innocent man, I’m being persecuted by someone running for office, and I think you have to go outside of the bounds,” Trump said. “This is a fraud on me. What’s happened here, sir, is a fraud on me.”
Engoron let Trump speak in court anyway during closing arguments, even though Trump refused to agree to conditions that were sent to him multiple times leading up to closing arguments. Trump demanded the court pay him damages for what he says he's been through. Trump rants that New York civil trial is a 'fraud on me' after judge allows him to speak during closing arguments excerpt: "We have a situation where I'm an innocent man," Trump told the judge. "They should pay me for what I've gone through." "This is not consumer fraud," Trump added. "This is no fraud. It is a fraud on me."

Those who reviewed and appointed Ayala to the election board are schoked that he was a rioter at the Capitol. Evidence shows him acting violently against the police near the Senate entrance that was breached. Maryland elections board member resigns after Jan. 6 indictment – NBC4 Washington excerpt: "Ayala, of Salisbury, Maryland, was appointed to the board two years after the riot in 2023 by Gov. Wes Moore, a Democrat. Ayala was recommended to the governor by the Maryland Republican Party. He was confirmed by the Maryland Senate after the chamber rejected the previous nomination of another potential appointee. Senate President Bill Ferguson described the arrest as “incredibly surprising and distressing.” The Baltimore Democrat said when he spoke to Ayala during the confirmation process “he certainly didn’t seem like someone that would have participated in such activities.” “When democracy is under threat, we can’t make any assumptions,” Ferguson said. “Nothing is predetermined.”
Trump's attorney Habba is considering only Trump's situation, and even in that limited context she's wrong. She's ignoring the ramifications of such a wide-ranging immunity. A president could commit crimes while in office and resign before being impeached, thus thwarting prosecution of him after he leaves office, according to Trump's impeachment-must-happen-first claim. A president could commit crimes that went unnoticed by Congress until after he was out of office, once again rendering him immune. A president could commit crimes just before his term ended, leaving Congress insufficient time to impeach, rendering him immune from prosecution.
Trump is an example. Congress scrambled to impeach and try him after the insurrection at the Capitol just before his term ended. McConnell and others talked like it wasn't that big of an issue because Trump could be prosecuted after he left office. Now Trump's supporters want to endow him with immunity to prevent him from be prosecuted after leaving office.
Trump name removed from NYC golf course. Trump name taken off NYC’s Ferry Point Golf Links excerpt: "But in 2021, then-Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that the city would terminate contracts with the Trump Organization in the wake of the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection, which sent lawmakers running for cover in fear for their lives and left five people dead and dozens injured. A protracted two-and-a-half-year legal battle came to an end in October, leading to Trump’s name being removed from the golf course. Bally’s, which is hoping to work with the city to secure a valuable gaming license, is expected to assume the previous lease. Trump was in the ninth year of the lease with the city."
