Alarm and amusement at Biden’s performance as world reacts to debate excerpt: "Every answer from Trump, if you listen to them carefully, is a mixture of wild exaggeration and total fantasy. And it’s a policy-free zone," Darroch told Sky News. "So his performance is pretty terrible too, but it was fluent and confident nonsense rather than stumbling, losing my train of thought nonsense."
Trump, a convicted felon, says Biden could be a convicted felon. Trump, Asked About Revenge, Says Biden ‘Could Be a Convicted Felon’
Calls for Biden to Step Aside Are About to Get Deafening excerpt: “Joe could be a convicted felon,” Trump said. “This man is a criminal.” And Trump—who is a convicted felon—continued to hurl inaccurate statements and fling innuendo all while flagrantly misrepresenting his own histories. "The only person on this stage that is a convicted felon is the man I am looking at right now,” Biden said.
Calls for Biden to Step Aside Are About to Get Deafening excerpt: "Trump is, at his core, a showman with few beliefs of his own. Biden, who has a half-century of debating under his belt and spent a week secluded at Camp David practicing for the debate, did not put on a matching spectacle. Instead, Biden tried to prosecute the fact-based case against Trump while his predecessor danced around the specifics and hurled invective back across the eight-foot gap between the men. “He gets paid by China. He’s a Manchurian candidate,” Trump said. A cheap shot, sure. But it’s one that rings much louder than almost anything Biden had at the ready."
Some Democrats start calling for Biden to step aside and 'throw in the towel' on 2024 excerpt: "Before Thursday's debate, Trump's campaign released an ad telling voters that if they elect Biden, they will end up with Vice President Kamala Harris as president — a suggestion that the octogenarian president would die in office or have to resign. The biggest question Democrats would have to resolve if Biden dropped out of the race before the convention is whether they would nominate Harris — whose approval ratings, like Biden's, are under water. Others who were mentioned Thursday night include Newsom, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker. “I look forward to being in Chicago when Gavin Newsom is nominated from the floor,” one Democratic strategist said after the first 20 minutes of the debate. “Should have gone on offense on abortion. Can’t keep his train of thought.”"
Biden’s poor performance and Trump’s lies: four key takeaways from the debate excerpt: "If someone were reading a transcript of Biden’s remarks, some of his lines would sound smart and aggressive. But the delivery failed – and for a visual medium like TV, that’s critical. He failed to sell his signature accomplishments, like his infrastructure plan. From the start, Biden’s voice was muffled. He trailed off. In one gaffe, attacking Trump on his tax cuts and the national debt, he confusingly ended his remarks with: “We finally beat Medicare.” Trump jumped on the moment: “He did beat Medicare. He beat it to death, and he’s destroying Medicare.” On an abortion question, which should be one of Biden’s strongest assets for voters concerned about rolling back reproductive rights, Biden brought up girls killed by migrants – pivoting, for some reason, to one of his weakest areas. He became more lively over the course of the evening, but not enough to change the narrative of how the debate went down optically. The evening will undoubtedly lead Democrats to debate whether Biden should somehow be replaced at the convention."
Two guys making accusations about each other's golf game. Was the Debate the Beginning of the End of Joe Biden’s Presidency? excerpt: "The only time the two really rode roughshod over the mikes was in an extended dispute toward the end of the debate over their golf handicaps. The wrangling went on so long—with gripes about whether Trump could carry his own golf bag or just how far Biden could hit a drive—that even Trump got tired of it. “Let’s not act like children,” he said to Biden. At the end of a grim night, this might have been the comic relief we all needed. But it did not seem funny so much as very, very sad. Is this how democracy dies, in a shouting match between two seniors about their golf game?"

A person's words and actions can be irrational and dangerous, but as long as it sounds forceful and confident. An anchor at Newsmax applauded how Trump stared at the 2017 solar eclipse without eye protection. He said Trump did it his way and with style, not allowing anyone else to tell him how to do it safely. image: Trump staring at length during the 2017 solar eclipse from the balcony of the White House while someone in the background could be heard yelling to not stare at it without protection.
At the debate, Trump blamed Biden and the Capitol Police for the riot at the Capitol and for ruining the lives of his rioters. Trump also said that the Jan. 6 committee in Congress that investigated his riot should be prosecuted. Calls for Biden to Step Aside Are About to Get Deafening excerpt: “You’ve destroyed the lives of so many people,” Trump said, accusing Biden of ruining the lives of innocent individuals connected to the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. He continued to insist that the protestors who sacked Capitol Hill were escorted in by police.
Trump never really answered any questions. He just used his time to rant and ramble about ripping babies from the womb and letting them die on the table. I blame the democrats for all of this shit. They let this happen. Well, maybe Joe can wake up for the next debate....he owes us an apology for that performance. He had to talk so fast for his two minutes, half the time you couldn't catch all they were saying. Joe. Lean into the microphone. Sound guys...turn it up.
Supreme Court rejects Bannon bid to stay out of prison. Supreme Court rejects Trump ally Steve Bannon’s bid to delay prison sentence image:
The way Biden looked and sounded at the first debate, leaning into the mic might have caused him to topple.
Trump says global warming is fine. https://www.cnn.com/2024/06/28/politics/fact-check-donald-trump-sea-levels-climate-change/index.html excerpt: "And he said of Biden: “He said it again last night, that global warming is an existential threat. And I say that the thing that’s an existential threat is not global warming, where the ocean will rise – maybe, it may go down, also – but it may rise one eighth of an inch in the next 497 years, they say. One eighth.” He added what appeared to be a joke: “Which gives you a little bit more waterfront property if you’re lucky enough though.”"
MI sheriff Chris Swanson calls Trump's lack of response during the riot neglect of duty. Michigan sheriff calls Capitol riot ‘neglect of duty’ by Trump in new Biden ad
Survey shows Trump has only a 6% lead over Biden in Texas. Donald Trump hit by shock Texas poll excerpt: "The poll, conducted by The University of Texas at Tyler, gave Trump 46 percent of the vote and Biden 40 percent in a hypothetical presidential contest in which the rivals are the only candidates. A further six percent replied each of "someone else" and "don't know," while one percent declined to answer the question."
https://www.politico.com/news/2024/06/23/biden-trump-finances-00164566 excerpt: “What Democrats should worry about is that it’s even within distance — that the money is going on at Trump’s side at such a clip,” said Hank Sheinkopf, a longtime Democratic strategist based in New York. “You would think a guy who’s convicted of crimes would be nowhere, but he’s everywhere financially. And that is a real problem for Democrats.” He said, “The challenger shouldn’t even be close on the money side, especially a guy who’s convicted of felonies. How is this possible, is what the Democrats should be asking. … That’s what they should be worried about.”
As I said in another thread, Biden's appearance was bad, the substance of his responses were spot on and great. The moderation was terrible. Trump did nothing but lie and the moderators gave him free rein to lie and lie again. Biden should refuse a further debate unless it is fact checked in real time. Unfortunately the American public is shallow and usually looks at the surface of thing only. So we'll see. In the old hot rod days there were cars that ran around with lots of chrome and loud exhausts but couldn't get out of their own way, they were all "show but no go." Then we had cars like the old Road Runner that had no frills, steel wheels with hub caps and a bench seat, but a huge engine under the hood that would blow other cars off the road. We called those cars "sleepers" as they looked like ordinary family cars. Trump is all show but no go...Biden is a sleeper. Which one will the public buy?
Opinion: The real loser in Thursday’s debate excerpt: "But this particular debate wasn’t about optics — it was about sonics. In general, this is a battle of weakly delivered rational facts versus forcefully uttered BS, and Americans always love the latter."
